Caught in a whirlwind

Okay so I’m starting to loose my cool a little bit now. Im only 21 But have thickening and a lump in my R Breast. I have my breast clinic appoint in 5 days (thursday 18th) I also had some bloods done which came back abnormal. (last ones i had done were 3 months ago but completely fine) So the combination of the two has kinda made me freak out a little bit now.
Im  starting to worry more cause my bloods were also abnormal?
I really dont know where to put myself. Especially know i wont find out for sure on my first appointment cause i’ll have to wait for the results afterwards anyway?

Any advice?

Thanks for taking your time to read this

Hi Chrissie,it’s a horrible anxious time, waiting to find out what you are dealing with is the pits .5 days seems like forever. They should be able to give you a good idea what is going on on Thursday, even if they do a biopsy which normally takes a week to come back they still give you some indication of what they think is going on.Did they give you any indication of what the blood tests showed?Jill

Yeah they indicate b12 and folate deficiency which there is no cause for as far as I’m concerned as I eat a diet rich in iron so I don’t have to take supplements there’s was another thing that was either low or raised but wouldn’t tell me so I was meant to see a doctor about it yesterday but she never turned up.

Well that’s helpful!!!Are you making another appointment ?It may not be related to your breast issues at all.

Well I have one for when my normal doctor gets back of holiday and they seem to think it is cause the kept urging me to go. As for my lump the doctor examined me and straight away saying she was referring me without saying what she thought or what the clinic is or what they will do. Only thing she said was that I needed biopsies so I’m a bit besides myself in to what to expect. Then I had a call same day from the clinic saying they received an urgent referral and said to expect to be 4 hours!! So I freaked. Only five days to go ? Seems like forever

Hi hunny, they do say expect to be 4 hrs, mainly because of waiting rather than having things done. I had appointment last week, was there just over 3 hrs. They did an ultrasound and a core biopsy. I had iron problems last year which resulted in me needing 2 iron infusions, I asked the consultant if they could be linked and he seemed to think it was just a coincidence. U can request a print out of ur blood results and ask the doctor what all the different things mean. I am waiting for a excision biopsy now to remove the lump (which they think is benign but removing for further testing to make sure). Good luck for Thursday, have u got someone who can go with u? Make sure u take a list of all the questions u may have too. xx

Chrissie it’s standard to refer breast lumps for further investigation ,don’t read too much into the speed of referral .The G.P cannot possibly know what he /she is looking at ,they need mammogram/ultra sound for that. I read that vast majority of referrals to breast clinic are nothing sinister and 3/4 of biopsies turn out to be nothing too.

Thank you all for replying I’m a lil more settled now just freaked me out with the whole rush of things and so many problems in a short space of time it really took me by shock. I guess all I can do is wait and if they take biopsies I’ll just have to wait again. The doctor was also concerned about my weight loss cause I’ve loss 20kgs in the last three months with no explanation. I was a size 12 but now a size 6. So need a new wardrobe badly now. Also I worry people not taking it seriously due to my age like I haven’t really spoke to anyone cause they are like your only young it’ll be nothing and it’s easy for them to say but it’s my body and things are happening and I have no explanation for them. Surely that would freak anyone out?

Things shouldn’t be dismissed just because you are young,if its worrying you and you are getting symptoms you need an explanation .

Thanks well I feel like something’s being done cause I have an appointment but I don’t wanna get there and the dr just say it’s fine your Young it’ll be nothing I’ll definitely insist on a scan. (I work in healthcare so I know what I’ll be looking at if I get to see the scan) sometime you can see the screen so I might be able to have a generalised idea hopefully.

I completely understand how u feel hunny, I’m 29 and until last June I was fit and well. Since then it has been one thing after another. Last year I had 2 ecg’s, an ultrasound, colposcopy followed by a punch Biopsy because they found abnormal cells on my cervix (which thankfullly werent cancerous) i had atleast 8 blood tests, 2 iron infusions and then last month I found the breast lump… iv had ultrasound, core biopsy and now waiting for excision biopsy… so i know how easy it is to panic that something more serious is going on. the only advice I can give is talk to people for support, don’t over analyse it all and stay positive. Talk to ur gp about all of ur concerns. Iv seen my gp atleast 10 times already this yr but they have been great at answering all my questions. xx

Chrissie, they most definitely won’t dismiss anything they see at the Breast Care Unit as “because you are young”,they are pretty skilled in looking at mammograms and ultrasounds, any doubts they will do biopsy .

A bath and a tub of ice cream sounds perfect ? There are so many possible things a lump can be so try not to get urself to anxious thinking about the worst case. You will know more on Thursday after the ultrasound. xx

That’s understandable hunny but thinking the worst will drive u crazy and make the wait unbearable so try and stay positive and keep urself busy xx

Thanks I’ll try my hardest too. Just hard I guess but I’ll keep trying  thanks again
