Hello everyone,
I had a single mastectomy in March and was luckily given the ‘all clear’ after surgery. Pro Signa testing concluded no Chemo required and radiotherapy also not recommended. After surgery I went for 2 routine scans that my consultant said were ‘national guidelines’ and ‘nothing to worry about’ and even the breast cancer now nurses agreed and said 99% nothing will come of them. One was a pelvic CT scan and one was a whole body bone scan. These were done on 22 April. I never heard back from my consultant so assumed all was ok. I did ask my breast care nurse last week just to double check for me (am waiting to hear back from her). Tonight I get a call from my hospital MRI dept to say that my consultant has requested a Cervical Spine MRI - nobody has called me to talk to me about this!!! I am so worried. I can’t get hold of anyone as it’s the weekend and I’m guessing they’ve seen something on the bone scan that looks suspicious. I’ve googled (I know, I know) and now I’m panicking that it’s metastasised to my spine. Anyone had anything similar? Thoughts?
Hi, obviously everyone is different but I had various things on my pelvic ct scan that they could see more clearly on MRI scan - I think it’s better for bones than CT but the changes were related to other things going on with my bones and not cancer .They always err on the side of caution once you’ve had breast cancer and look more carefully at any changes .Fingers crossed for a re-assuring outcome .
Yes, I have had quite a few of those scares already and most turned out benign. My MRI showed a lesion on my liver. At the same time, there was another questionable mass on my other breast. I was freaking out. The liver lesion turned out to be a benign hemangioma and the other mass on my breast was a benign fibroadenoma. This was all done in my work up with my first diagnosis of IDC in February. BUT I can imagine it would be more terrifying even in future follow ups. I feel like it’s unfair of them to have weekends lol. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have immediate access to results on my online portal. That saves me, whether it’s good or bad, at least I know asap. Is an online chart available to you? Please keep us updated and you will be in my thoughts!
I had a scan which showed up some abnormality of the spine so was sent for a bone scan. This came back clear for cancer, there was just some compression of my discs which wasn’t deemed a problem. It is easy for your brain to automatically go to the worst scenario, but not always accurate. Hope all goes well
I’m living in ignorance. Never had a bone, MRI or CT scan. Its often done after active treatment is over to see how your bone health is. Sometimes osteoporosis or osteopnea is spotted, in which case treatment is offered to protect bone health. I have a feeling that if I were to ever get scanned stuff would show up as my back is definitely dodgy at night, and my knee joints give me jip on and off, but that pre-dates the lump I found. There are lots of things that can flag up that aren’t due to mets.
I would of had a bone scan, but it got cancelled due to my stopping tamoxifen after a host of symptoms that were unlivable in my eyes, and for little to no benefit. That leaves healthy diet and supplements, and crossing my fingers that no cells escaped. Scans are routine when having ongoing hormone treatment for 5 or 10 years, as they are known to affect bone health.
I’m sorry to hear of your concern. Timings seem to drag and your mind dies play havoc.
I was also called in for another scan as there was a darkening in my spine. It turns out to be slight arthritis on my spine….which I was told wasn’t of concern as the scan picks up all the small details.
I hope you get it done and your results turn out to be nothing.
