hi
my mom got a phone from doctor office yesterday about the newest mamogram result. but they closed today, so we dont know what happens. But she just had a breast exam in office and it was normal. She told doc 4 or 5 months ago, saying that her breasts are sore sometimes, feel like having milk inside. Dr kept do the breast exams every month, he said it’ s normal, it happened because she is about the stop her period. As far as i know, the first sign of breast cancer is discovering lumps in the breast, right? But by doc exams, there is no lumps. My mom has been going to mamogram every year since she was 42, and they all came out normal. Except the first time, it came out abnormal, she had many test after that to make sure that was not cancer cells. Finally, it came back normal. Then everything is normal since then. So what is the chance of her to have breast cancer? We dont have history in our family having breast cancer and we are asians. Iam so worry for her. Please help me.
Hi there
It’s a really worrying time for you all right now, it’s awful having to wait to find out results. They were probably just ringing to let her know her results were back it doesn’t necessarily mean there is anything to worry about. Try not to worry too much. If for any reason they do find something to be concerned about she will be well looked after.
Hope everything goes well

hi Ann
thanks for your support, we are much better than yesterday. there is nothing we can do here. If bad news, then we deal with it, it is not like end of the world here, alot of people are having this problem, my mom is not the only one. If good news, then we all happy and celebrate, OHHH. But after all, still alittle worry, can’t just ignore it. again, much much better than yesterday.
Wish my mom luck tomorrow.
Let us know how you get on. Will be thinking of you
Lots of luck
Ann

hi
My mom went to see doctor on saturday. he said that it didn’t show a clear picture on the left breast, So he said my mom needs to have spot mammogram to have a better view, just want to make sure everything is ok. So i dont know if it is a good news or bad news. How did you find out that you have breast cancer, by mammogram test or any further test and what does it say on the mammogram report?
I would say that it is nothing to worry about. He justs needs another picture as the first one isn’t clear enough, this is very common.
I hope so, but still worry. I hope it is ok.
Hi chihuahua,
when I first went for the 3 step procedure (mammo, ultrasound and core biopsy) at the breast care centre, the nurse told me that 80% of women who are referred there do not have a malignant disease, so hold on to that for the moment.
Lumps in the breast may alert some women to go to their doctor, but in my case I had no palpable lumps, swelling, or soreness. My 3rd, 3 yrly mammo showed a black mass and that is why I was referred. I even went to my GP after I got the recall letter, but she couldn’t feel any lumps in either breast. I guess it was deep in the tissue. Thank goodness for mammos.
It maybe that your Mum is entering the menopause and this could explain the soreness in her breast.
Hope you get good results.
Liz.
Hi,
I got the copy of mom result, it said that : The tissue of both breasts is heterogeneously dense, which may lower the sensitivity of mammography. A questionable 6mm nodular structure is noted in the left posterior third of the upper breast, probably in the outer quadrant. No dominant mass lesion, architectural distortion, or pathological calcification is seen, no skin thickening or nipple retraction is noted. The axillary regions are unremarkable.
Impression: 1) Questionable small nodule in the left upper outer breast. Spot comression film in MLO projection and 90 degree lateral view of the left breast are recommended for further evaluation. If the nodule is visible on additional study, and ultrasound of the left breast is recommended. 2) ACR/ BIRADS Category: 0.
Based on the this report, Can anyone tell me that is there any chances for my mom to have breast cancer? Iam so worry about it. By the way, My mom already had the spot compression test.
Thank you
They think there is an area which may be breast cancer, but it sounds really small as it isn’t changing the shape of the breast. The bit about axillary regions indicates there aren’t any lumpy lymph nodes in the armpit which is a good sign as they are more likely to go lumpy if there are cancer cells in them. They are trying more mammograms to pinpoint the lumpy bit, then they need to test the cells. They are suggesting that if the lump is visible on the compression mammogram, your mum should also have an ultrasound as the bit about the breasts being dense means that it’s difficult to see breast cancer using just mammograms. They don’t usually show up cancer as well if you have dense breasts as if you have fatty ones. Mine are dense and my cancer didn’t show up on any of the mammograms I had, but did show on ultrasound. Confirmation of what it is has to be via a test of the cells under the microscope so if a lump is found a bit will be cut away and tested.
I hope it shows all is well. It probably is, but they like to be cautious
