Changing hos

Hi all can anyone give me any tips on changing hos I’m beeing let down with mine no scans booked when promised paper work on trials not sent as anyone changed nhs hos was there a prob what if your not well can u still go to local one I’m unsure what to do any tips or advice be gratefully revived laura x

HI Laura, its a big decision isn’t it and things must have really got bad for you to want to change - its seems a bit like changing bank accounts - not impossible but tricky! I would think possibly the best place to start would be either your GP or the PALS at your current hospital. The only thing I’d say is if you are building in a potentially longer travel to the new hosp you may need to balance that against your distruct where you are - you’ve probably done that already…maybe there is some way of getting an improved service from your current hosp - again I think PALS best place to start on that one,
good luck with it - we all need care we can trust and we deserve it too!

I changed without too much difficulty, and still go back to my local hospital for other things. But before changing you want to make sure you’re not jumping out of the frying pan into the fire - so before asking for a change, you have got to do your research to identify a hospital that will provide the sort of approach you would like. Also you need to make sure that the Oncologist who could take over your care is right for you (because sometimes things sound great on paper, but are not in reality), so again, before asking for a change, ask for a second opinion with the Oncologist you have identified. Then if you like him/her you can then ask if they would to take on your case.
If you’re unable to do your own research, ask your GP to refer you elsewhere, explaining the type of treatment approach you would like. Generally speaking they know who does what, so hopefully they will help. They are not obliged to refer you elsewhere, but few doctors want to treat a patient who has no confidence in them.
