Changing hospitals

Hi

Had anyone changed hospitals for their treatments? I will be temporarily moving three hundred miles away from my current hospital.

I have just had my second chemo and wondered how easy it is to swap so the remainder of my chemo and radiotherapy was done at my new hospital.

I was in a similar situation, but I had finished chemo. I informed the original hospital and rang the BCN where I was moving to. The hospitals arranged everything between them. I was awaiting rads at the time. Although there was a slight delay, all went well.

In theory it shouldn’t be any problem. I had my Rads at a different hospital from the rest of my treatment at my request (travelling was too difficult as I live in the countryside so I stayed with my mum).

The issue will be ensuring that there isn’t a gap between your treatments. Even though I’d asked over 4 months in advance I did experience a bit of delay of about 3 weeks as the registrar forgot to do the referral letter whilst the Onc was on holiday - he did it for me urgently when he got back. There was though quite a waiting list in my new hospital for Rads.

You will need to get your Oncologist onto it URGENTLY as he/she will do the referral to your new hospital and as you’ve already started chemo it should be prioritised. If you’re having 3 FEC and 3 taxotere they might prefer you to have your last FEC at your current hospital if possible and then start Tax at your new one.

take care and good luck
