Hi
I have flights booked for a weekend away to Portugal In June that cost £240. I checked my yearly insurance and as it runs out end of April I thought I’d claim back as chemo will start in May.
The doctors want to charge me £33 to sign the form. I have £100 excess too.
I think it’s unfair the doctors charge so much. It’s not my fault I can’t go. Know what I’d rather be doing in June! What’s your thoughts?

I am not sure if this is correct Emma but it may be worth checking with your insurance company if you can claim back the doctor’s fee. £33 sounds a lot just for a signature but I suppose doctors are supposed to take time to read what they are putting their signature too. Just imagine if in one week they have a pile of other papers they have to waiting to be signed (and read?) so I suppose they can justify it.

Yes, I think it is fairly standard practice that doctors charge for completing the relelvant sections and signing travel insurance claim forms. As suggested above, worth checking if you can also claim the doctor’s fee.
I was lucky that my GP waived the fee (about £28, 4 years ago) when I needed a travel insurance form done (I was due to go on holiday 2 weeks after diagnosis and had to cancel because of the date of my mastectomy op).
I hope you get a good result from this and book yourself a lovely trip to celebrate the end of treatment.
All the best.
I had to cancel a holiday to Japan last year. The Drs receptionist wanted to charge me but I spoke to my GP who waived the charge. Maybe worth a try.

Why not ask oncologist to sign…he is much less likely to charge. GPs are essentially a small business. they get paid to offer basic services to each of their patients but for most additional and private services they can make additional charges…a bit like solicitors but probably a smaller charge! Thanks. I have written a letter with the form saying how upset i feel about the charge, so i’ll see if they waiver it. Also didn’t think about claiming it back so will look into that.
i am looking forward to Christmas, i feel a holiday coming on!

My oncologist doesn’t charge me but my GP has in the past. Good luck with it all. X

Sorry that happened 3 times!
My breast surgeon didn’t charge me when she signed both claim forms when we had to cancel 2 holidays booked for that summer after my diagnosis in April 2011.
Its sickening isn’t it.I’m doing a parachute jump in May to raise money for breast cancer research and I have to have a medical form signed by my doctor which I have had to pay £30 for.Disgraceful
