chemo and grade 1

can anyone tell me a grade 1 lump with no nodes involved er+ HER- would this dx be consider to have chemo under any circumstances?? are they other things to consider. consultant surgeon had said will require rads and hormone therapy but didnt mention chemo.

will be speaking to onc but have done yet. consultant said onc will go through the above in more detail and discuss hormone therapy in detail and what rads will be carried out. but she said chemo wouldn’t be needed she thought - i am going to discuss this with onc with lots other questions i have - but just thought is chemo likely to be offered by onc - i thought it was onc who decided on rads/chemo/tablets.

oh yes and what are consider as good margins?

many thanks lovely ladies TTM

I was told that as my lump was under 2cm if I had been grade 1 the mastectomy would have been enough without chemo or if I had been hormone positive that would have been enough. If you have a lumpectomy then I reckon you will just need Rads.
I don’t think you will need chemo as only grade 1 and no node involvement but obviously I’m not a doctor but believe this to be the case.

Hi TTM
From everything I’ve read it would be unusual to have chemo for a small grade 1 ER+ lump with no node involvement (although like Sozza123, I’m not a doctor). Just thank your lucky stars that your tumour was small, hasn’t spread, and can be treated with rads and hormone therapy.

Hi

I was only given chemo because there was node involvement of 6 out of 17, otherwise just rads and Tamoxifen.

Hi TTM,

I had a lumpectomy, grade 1, 9mm also sentinal node biopsy. Unfortunately one of the nodes they removed contained tiny cancer cells. I then went on to have axillary clearance and was told probably chemo after. Luckily all the other nodes were clear and my onc said it wouldn’t be beneficial to have chemo. I am ER+ so have started on Tamoxifen and I am nearly halfway through rads.

Take care

Hi TTM

Hormones work much better on grade 1 tumours than Chemo so even people with a small no of positive nodes with grade 1 disease wouldn’t normally get any benefit from Chemo… I had a grade 1 ER pos node neg 1.3cm tumour at 37 and didn’t need Chemo that was almost 6 years ago … Mum had the same aged 57 and she didn’t need Chemo either and she’s now 7 years down the line.
