Chemo and the sniffles

Evening,

Just wanted some opinion as I had my first FEC on Monday. For the past 2 days I’ve had the sniffles and tonight it’s become like a proper cold but only on the left side of my nose, feel normal apart from that just a very runny and blocked left nose! Is there any point calling the hospital as in my leaflet it says to call for signs of cold/flu but this seems quite minor. What do you all think?

Ive had the sniffles all through chemo , its not a cold the BCN told me its coz the hairs have gone from up my nose. nothing to trap the snot on. But ring your bcn or helpline if you are worried

Sorry can i just ask

i think this may be a psyco late effect of the trauma of BC and treatment. but every now and then I need to take a deep breath but it comes out like I am sobbing, even though i am not upset at the time.

some one told me it was an effect from the op and being out for so long ???

any ideas

Hi truffle shuffle,
That sounds like a strange one! Ive noticed my heart will suddenly start racing even when sitting down on the sofa, usually in the evenings, but goes if I breathe slowly and deeply. Also notice I get very out of breath now walking up hills, if I try and run upstairs or just walk around the shops at my normal fast speed.
Do you notice that too?
I put everything down to chemo now. Maybe yours is a variant of the above but worth asking your chemo unit maybe next time?

I can’t comment on Truffle’s problem, but on Fairyem’s cold I’d say tell them and see if they want to check it out.

I’ve had good neut counts throughout, but got a cough a week after fec #1 which lasted a good 3 weeks. They gave me two lots of antibiotics to make sure it didn’t develop and have given me more to have a week after my latest fec as a preventative. I didn’t have a temp and felt ok in myself, but they do like to be extra cautious.

Karen, I have had a little bit of heart racing. Fec can affect your heart, I believe.

yep i will mention it at next chemo, yes I do get very out of breath, just like an old lady , I go walking with my friend but make sure no hills involved. What a state, snotty nose , no hair, fat, no breath…oh well cud be worse, cud be married to Tiger woods, bet there xmas dinner goes in silence

Hi,

I called the help line and they got me in for blood tests etc, thankfully levels all good so they were happy for me to carry on. I just felt a bit silly phoning cos I had the sniffles but they said that I did the right thing and to call back if it gets worse. glad I called now, got a feeling I’ll be back and forth a few times, lucky it’s only 10mins away.
