Chemo before mastectomy.

Hi all,

I am posting this question on behalf of my Mum who started her first session of chemo today. She has been given the option of having a full course of chemo before she has her single mastectomy as the doctors feel this will make the lumps in her left breast smaller and easier to remove. She is just wondering if anyone else has the experience of doing things this way around and mainly if people felt well enough for their op at the end of chemo? Thank you

Hi Kellysparkles,
My mum had chemo first, finishing just before Christmas and now she is waiting to have her surgery which will be in a couple of weeks. As I understand they usually give you a 4-6 weeks break after chemo has finished so your body can recover. My mum feels pretty well at the moment and I think she will be ok when she has her surgery.
Hope this helps. Wishing your mum all the best.
Kat
