Chemo, Herceptin and veins

Hi Tillybob,
My port was used the very next day for chemo, so i am sure 6 days later would be fine.
I opted for the sedation as i dont like the sensation of the pulling and prodding me about. but thats just me.
Good luck with it

My portacath was fitted and had docetaxel via it on the same day so you will be absolutely fine

I’m booked to have a hickman line inserted on the 8 may as my veins are quite bad now. However, I’m still having my last chemo on 4 may and they are going to use my bad arm. I have asked if my chemo can be delayed till hickman is inserted but they don’t want to delay any further than they have to (was supposed to have had chemo today but bloods deranged). My unit don’t offer portacaths but they sound so much better.

Hi all.

My veins seem a bit better. Had first Tacx and Herceptin today and not as painful in the arm as FEC.

Thanks for all your posts. If and when I decide I want a portacath my Onc says that’s fine so will see how I go.

Anne - seems tough that ou have to have your chemo in the bad arm. I am the same, have had SNB so can’t have any in my right arm. Surgery and recon planned for 7July then 5 weeks of rads and Herceptin for a year!!

Hi Wolsty, I had 3 Fec, 3 Tax and so far have had 14 Herceptin all through my right arm veins (had full clearance on the left side) but for my last Herceptin it took 3 attempts and chemo nurses had me in tears with the pain as I think my veins are finally saying ā€˜enough now’. They look really good, but I think it is all show. Hoping they’ll last for the last 4 Herceptin doses and I’ll be taking painkillers before the next dose. Take care and hope they veins behave for you if you decide to ā€˜stick’ with it. Bev
