chemo, my first time - done the deed!

Hi all
just to let you know, I had my first chemo today! must admit i was terrified and have done a lot of crying over the last few days. Pre chemo chat yesterday made me feel even worse, but couldnt fault them today. the nurse who looked after me was great and it wasnt half as bad as i thought it would be. I just hope i have as much luck over the coming week with side effects etc. have to have nurse in from sunday for 5 days to give injections. off to hospital friday to sort out the ‘new hairstyle’ so will be a new woman soon!!!
hope to catch you on the live chat over the next few weeks.
keep up the good work girls. you do a wonderful job
love ya loads

Well done Deb - that’s the first one out the way - you can start counting down now!!

Hope everything goes ok for you over the next few days - I’m sure you’ll be fine

Well done Deb,
It is a hard, long and sometimes testing road but well worth it. I have learnt much about myself , have had to have “patience lessons”!?. I try to see it as a journey similar to doing a qualification with lessons, revision etc and the odd exam but once it has come to an end I will have gained something valuable.
I will be doing no7 of 8 cycles tomorrow and although i’m not looking forward to it and will be having a portacath in shortly it really is wonderful to be in a hospital and a country where although things arent always perfect they are great compared to many other countries and the women there are not given half the chance we are .
I am so glad to be alive and at least a chance of being so for a while yet!!!
Love Kay.

Hi Deb.
Found your chemo thread… think I’ll stick to first one though… difficult to know when to stop posting on one thread when starting another…
I get lost! I have to keep notes about everyone next to computer!!

Are you just nauseous or actually throwing up? my Mum wore ‘seabands’ (wrist bands for travel sickness with accupressure point on) for nausea with great effect… worked for me in pregnancy too…

Td xx

Welcome Debs to the chemo club. I am due my last epi on Monday then tablets. It is good toget the first one done as you know what to expect next time round. I am hairless on my head now but have v thick eyebrows and eyelashes. It is a good time of year to have no hair as so hot. I am wearing hats as wigs are too hot.

Good luck with your chemo

Rach

Hi Debs66

I too had my first chemo yesterday. Like you I was terrified, even though I had read up on it, and had had an education seminar with the nurse etc,and had spoken to women who had gone through it all!

I was nauseas most of y’day. But am feeling fine now. Can’t eat much, but am going to give soups and juices a good go. Could not sleep most of the night, but am planning on taking that anti nausea pill a little earlier today.

1 down, 5 to go for me. I will be on 3xFEC, then 3x Taxotere, with Herceptin starting at the same time as Taxotere. I also have to be on Tamoxifen. This is a journey I wish I did not have to take, but having found myself here, I am glad that I have had such good medical care, fantastic support from family and friends, and not to mention this fantastic website.

BTW, I live in Australia - so there may be a time lag in replies.

Hi All

Well done to you all on the 1st chemo - I have just done my second and it hasn’t been too bad. I have had no nausea up to now on both doses and just starting to feel the exhaustion creeping up on me today. But I will do as my body says and sleep - even if it for hours on end. That is the way wour body heals - sod the housework, cooking and cleaning…it will get done when I feel like it!

I am having 3 FEC and then 3 TAX but no hormone involvement as I am dx as triple negative. I will be just having 20 rounds of rads straight after chemo and then thats it - the road to recovery. Fingers crossed as I am higher risk for 2 years after the end of treatment and I will only be on 12 monthy checkups or if anything starts aching - they will look into it.

Isn’t it fantastic that this website help us women all over the world…USA, UK and Australia. To me it is PRICELESS!!!

love to all

Hi all
thanks for your messages. had 1st chemo wednesday afternoon and now saturday and only just starting to improve! Have not thrown up yet although had one incident where tried! felt better after tho. am wearing seabands, saw it recommended on another thread. taking tablets is horrible, especially when feeling really sick. have spent most of the days sleeping, which cant be a bad thing really. my lovely husband has been off work and looking after me well. managed jacket spud for tea and really enjoyed it!! left the bedroom this afternoon for first time and feeling bit more awake. hope to get good night sleep tonight as nurse coming tomorrow to start 5 days of injections! yippee.
Australia - how lucky are you? mum and dad spend 6 weeks there over christmas. would love to go but have phobia with spiders! tried to emmigrate to NZ 2 years ago, but they wouldnt have me - medical grounds!
catch up with you all soon.

hi debs glad to see you have managed your 1st chemo, well done.

i kept a short diary of the 1st week after each 1 just so i could remember and in case i was asked by the onc how it was going and i tend to forget things.

we have kept a diary. my husband has been marking everything down just in case we forget! its a good idea really as so much going on. Up and about now but very very tired and cant do much but laze around! stomach taking time getting back and still aches. not for too long I hope.
catch up soon
take care all

Hi FizBix

Sorry not been on for few days as been enjoying the lovely weather. As for the triple neg - there is only a handful of us on this site that are dx with it. Few and far between are we - so we could be related!!! I don’t have thyroid trouble though.

Glad to hear that you have only 3 to go…I have just done 2nd FEC and have 3 TAX to go - but I still count the sessions 1/3 done!!! Then its 20 rads and I think that they are going to be more bother than the chemo (5 days a week for 4 weeks travelling to a hospital 15 miles away) not looking forward to that!

Hi all, well done for starting. I’ve just had FEC 2 of… 1 more FEC and 3 TAX followed by Tamoxifen and RADs.

So far not to bad no sickness and little nausea. But the tiredness is what drags me down although after the first FEC I learnt
just to give into to it! OH shaved head last night and oh does it feel much better, got to the really itchy stage but youngest (7 yr old), didn’t want me
in a scarf / hat for family celebrataion. Have to say with the hot nights and warm day time temps its actually been surprisely refreshing - although obviously
not something I would normally cherish. Bye for now.

take care all

hi everyone i start my first chemo on thursday 29/5/08 i have to go to hospital today for a picc line putting in as my viens are not good, feeling quite scared about chemo, but doesnt everyone. i am having fec, i call it fether jacks chemo, pardon the pun to all father ted fans out there. I am going to try cold cap but if i can stand it or not is another matter. good luck to you all keep your chins up and your wigs on straight! god bless from denise in Barnsley

Hi Gerty

I am on FEC#3 today and still scared! I had a portacath inserted on Friday and hopefully this round wont hurt as much as last one - my veins are shot at and I ended up with phlebitis in my arm, which was horrible.

Good luck for today and your picc line

Anita xxx

Hi Gerty
I am having second FEC on thursday, so will be thinking of you when they are sticking in the needles! My veins playing up and dreading having a line put in. been threatened. didnt bother with cold cap and cant stand the cold! shaved my head this weekend and feel really great about it. best thing I have done since dx.
good luck and hope all goes well. try not to worry too much. it wont be as bad as you think.
