Hi there
Had my second Epi dose last Tuesday and dont seem to have coped with the sickness side very well this time. After my first dose, I was taking the domperidone tablets until the first weekend, and then started to improve, until my appetite was quite BIG until the next dose, but thats another thread!
I was sick 3 times last Tuesdays evening, despite drinking large amounts of water, but only having had a sandwich since leaving the hospital, and each day, I have felt quite ill, taking the anti sickness tabs 3 times per day. Only today have I not taken anything and have enjoyed a nice lamb dinner which I cooked. Does anyone have any tips to help me please for next time, or will I react differently after each dose? I have tried flat cola, ginger biscuits for nibbling on and eating regular small meals but nothing has really been keeping it at bay.
Thanks for any feedback

Hi Annabelle
Sorry to hear you’ve been so sick -it’s the pits. I had different reactions to the doses, but as you’ve been so poorly I suggest you tell your chemo nurse so she can discuss changing your meds - there are other anti-sickness drugs which may help - I got ondansetron and metoclopramide. May be worth giving her a call now, rather than waiting till next treatment. I do hope you continue to feel a little better as you have done today.

Hi Annabelle - I found Indian tonic water good - it has quinine in which was the old fashioned remedy for malaria sickness in India (I think?). Also I was given my anti sickness meds as suppositories which meant that obviously didn’t bring them back up and helped with all the constipation that the other meds give (sorry to be so graphic!) .
Good Luck

HI Annabelle,
Sorry to hear that you’ve been sick with the Epi… unfortunately I was too… evidently the anti-sickness meds are supposed to stop you being sick and lots of folk don’t throw up at all during chemo, just feel nauseous (lucky them…!) Anyway, I had my meds changed each time and the 4th (and last) Epi was the best, in that I was only sick a few times! Go back to your chemo nurse / oncologist and ask for a change of meds… no point waiting until after the next chemo, but better speaking to them before it. On the last Epi I got some tabs to start taking the day before…
Good luck!

I was on FEC and my god was I ill ended up in hospital twice, they switched my sickness meds to ondansetron melts that melt on the tongue so you cant sick them up, domperidon and Emend I was at my last 2 chemo’s when switched but it worked much better…
Hope this helps my love and that you are feeling better now, its awful feeling sick the worst feeling in the world to me…
LOL & Hugs

Hi ladies
Thanks very much for your tips, its great to know that others are suffering like me (doesnt sound quite right that) and know how horrible the nausea feeling is, especailly when you cant get away from food at home. Feeling a lot better today, and going in to see them at work whilst I still have my hair, but should be able to go out for lunch with my friend at least. I think I will contact the hospital unit and see what they can give me before my next dose to help stave off the nausea before it starts. Will let you know how I get on.Dont fancy the suppositories tho Pam, seeing as my bum is starting to spread across the bed, sitting about such a lot last week LOL.

Hi Annabelle,
I started E-CMF chemo in May and am due to finish next week, Luckily, my anti-sickness meds were nailed right from the start, I have Dex and Ondansetron and Domperidone as additional if needed. This combination really works for me, but I have also sworn by ‘Travel bands’ right from the start! They are a great alternative to ‘pill popping’ and you can wear them day and night if needed. I know they don’t work for everyone but personally I have found them to be awesome and they only cost about £7 from Boots.
Take care and I hope your sickness subsides. They can give us a million anti-sickness meds so yours may just need tweaking a little,
Kelly
