Chemotherapy caused menopause symptoms

Hi ladies, i wonder if anyone has been in my shoes- i am so scared. I am in my 40th and chemo caused me a really bad menopause symptoms. I finished chemo 5 weeks ago now and i am in a dreadful state- i am having severe night sweats, pain all over the body, low mood and i can not sleep. Has anyone been there and has anything helped to manage it? I will be not be able to used HRT. Also is it permanent or will i recover?

I truly appreciate anyone’s support and shared experiences.

I am so sorry. I was warned by my oncologist that chemo would probably kill my ovaries. On one hand that’s sad but I’m trying to frame it as a positive. Estrogen is not my friend and out of all the things I want to recover from chemo my ovaries don’t make the list. I think I would be honest with your onco and see what they recommend for side effects. Mine suggested vaginal lubrication even before I started chemo so I can prepare. And anti-depressant might be helpful and some of them even help with night sweats. Some of your pain though might be from chemo still. It’s hard to tease out but maybe your onco has something s/he can do that for that, too. Going into menopause quickly is for the birds and I’m so sorry you’re experiencing it. But there are ways to manage even without HRT being in our gameplan. Plus, sometimes people adjust to it, too, and side effects lessen. I hope that happens for you and quickly.
