Chemotherapy choices

Hi apologies if this isn’t in the right section…
I am due to start my chemo at the start of June and upon visiting my oncologist today I was given two choices of chemotherapy!

1st one would be 3x FEC every 3 weeks followed by 3 x docetaxel.
The 2nd choice was 3 x paclitaxel (plus carboplatin) every week for 3 weeks followed by the 3x FEC course.

I was wondering f anybody else has been offered the choice and any advice or recommendations? I had got my head around the idea of once every 3 weeks as my Macmillan nurse had mentioned pre surgery but now this other option has thrown a spanner in the works!

Hi nutmeg, am starting in June too. Am just having the FEC T 100, no choices! Did your oncologist explain why the two?

Hi Nutmeg23

Welcome to the BCC forums, in addition to the support here please feel free to call our helpliners to talk things through, lines are open during the week 9-5 and Saturdays 10-2 on 0808 800 6000

I am posting a couple of links to the BCC treatments information where you can read about different chemos and also further support ideas which I hope you will find helpful:

I wonder why they are giving you the choice - definitely as them for reasoning.

I had 3 x FEC 3 weeks apart followed by 11 weekly paclitaxol. My oncologist said that the weekly paclitaxol is much easier to tolerate than the 3 weekly docetaxel and I certainly found it much easier that the FEC and from what others have written on this forum, much easier than docetaxel.

Hope you come to a decision/agreemet with your oncologist. x
