How long do i have to wait for chemotherapy to start???
Hi UKrose
It depends on whether you are having chemo pre-op or post op. I’ve had both. The chemo before my op started about 3 weeks after diagnosis.
The chemo I have had after my op started 6 weeks after.
Have you had a diagnosis or any info about treatment yet?
Thank you Buzzy. Seeing beast lady tomorrow about treatment and to talk about the TCscan results.
hi ukrose i had mastectomy and chemo was 8 wks after xx
Hi there, I had chemo before surgery - it started a fortnight after diagnosis. Most people I knew who had it post surgery started about six weeks after their op.
Hello
I started chemotherapy 4 weeks after surgery. Had bone scan and CT scan inbetween xx
I am having a bone scan next week. Do they do a heart test?
Hello again. My quick answer is ‘yes’ but it may depend on which chemo regime you have. Some do what is called a MUGA scan and others do an echo cardiogram. Mine did the latter. If you have to have herceptin they seem to do quite frequent MUGA heart scans (I don’t have it so can’t comment with any accuracy) as it can affect your heart. Your BCN should be able to tell you all these things. The heart scan is ‘just’ to make sure your heart is healthy enough for the chemo. They will look after you carefully all through the chemo.
It will be a crazy few weeks as you get all the tests and scans but once that’s done it will settle into a more steady routine.
Keep asking the questions! And do check out the BCC publications (which you can read online) as they are really good and helpful.
Take care.
I posted under another thread you started and suggested you come here. Looks like you are getting plenty of advice and support. Hope all goes well.
