Chillow for body?

I have seen the chillow pillows but I already have a great memory foam pillow that stays pretty cool. My problem is my body! it is not so much hot flushes, as just being unbearably hot all the time. I wonder…anyone who has got a chillow, what would you think about me being able to hug a chillow witha pillow? Would it actually cool me down? I have been on Tamoxifen for a year and am sick of feeling like a boiled lobster for the first half of the night!

Well I have to say, i am pretty much like yourself, absolutely boiling all the time, but night times are miserable, I have 3 chillows, one on my pillow, one at my feet and a mini one which I hug, I dont find them too cold, in fact I think I warm them up!! as in the morning they are quite warm, I also have 2 fans going, have to be pretty careful about how I position them though, as I can wake up with a stiff neck/back if I have them directed right at me.
I guess it depends on how hot you get really, hubby has tried one and he finds them too cold.
Hope that helps a bit

Hooray, two more drips like me! No offence meant! But I am more than hot, I AM ON FIRE - ALWAYS! Was just about to look the chillow up to buy on Amazon as somebody said they were good - to be honest, I need more than ‘good’.

And how come - if I’m permanently leaking - that I don’t weigh 7 stone?

Hi Jacqui and others! Just happened on this thread after wondering where everyone had gone!!
I have just made an app with my gp to discuss Tamoxifen as I am really struggling with sweats especially at night, and feel I can’t go on like this for 5 b****y years!! Have tried the lady magnet-didn’t work, and had wondered about the chillow? I get so hot I literally can’t stay in my bed as it feels like an overheated electric blanket…got the fan trained on me all night too much to oh’s disgust as he can’t sleep for the noise of it!! Oh happy days-and here was me thinking that things would improve once all the treatment was over???

Hello fellow hot people,

SS - I too think I heat the chillow up after about 5 mins.

I tend to put it lower down on my memory foam pillow so my head, neck and shoulders are on it. After initial relief, I slap it on the other side of the bed so it can cool itself down again til my next sweat an hour later - my OH and I have slept in seperate rooms for almost 2 years when I started getting hot with chemo and it’s better that way for both of us. I have also had a fan aiming towards me and the window open but am careful not to get it too near my back. Am thinking of buying another chillow to lie on as well…Wouldn’t care but the weather isn’t even that hot, in fact it’s dull, overcast and wet yet again today !

Lyn,

Just seen your post - I was doing mine at the same time ! I’ve just had my appointment with the onc brought forward by 5 weeks to Thurs of next week as the side effects of the hormone stuff plus hunt-the-vein for my monthly bone strengthener are really getting me down. In Feb I was granted retirement from work on ill-health grounds at the grand age of 44, partly due to the side effects of all the treatment and partly due to bone mets, and am so glad I don’t have to get up in a morning for a day’s work - am just drained. I too had said to the nurse who gives me my monthly injection, that you think the worst is over with the treatment (I had chemo, mx,anc and rads) but this is miles worse !! And I feel such a wimp.

Plan to take loads of questions to onc and hope she won’t think I’m just moaning - don’t think she will. The nurses giving me my monthly bone drip said I may just need a bit of a break and that I’ll be emotionally drained after everything. We’ll see and consider any alternatives vs risks.

lizcat - how strange you have the same pic as mazaroo …

Chillows - I have two, one to cool me down while the other one IS cooling down. You can stuff them under a pillow but it is not comfy at all.

Best have them behind your back whilst lying or sitting or even have one on your lap.

The usual stuff, drink long cold drinks, don’t even THINK about putting the kettle on. Some ladies on here take useful antidepressants which reduce the hotties as a side effect so don’t be afraid to ask your GP about that. I’ve had 'em for 3 years and always thought it was due to weight (overweight) issues that women got flushes - doh!!! I’m about 120lbs so it ain’t due to being overweight that’s for sure. I was considering going abck to Tamoxifen to try and gain a few pounds … I’m sick of ice cream, cheesecake, cream teas etc.

Healthy eating just isn’t good for me, I lose too much weight.

Can hardly believe I always wanted to live in a warmer climate, now I’d just be a molten blob!

Dahlia - it’s a picture from windows images as I didn’t want mine on but perhaps I’ll put some random photo on from holiday snaps featuring other folk!!! I hate having my photo taken but have just had it for my passport renewal - so awful, it’s untrue but at least it sits in the drawer most of the year and the passport folk don’t often look too closely !

Phew I cannot tell you how relieved I feel that I am not the only boiled lobster! I was talking to a friend today and she hasn’t had BC but is going through the menopause and she got a chillow last week and is bowled over by it. In the meantime I have put my wheatbag in the freezer and will try that out tonight heh heh, I deffo think I need to hug it. I do empathise with you lizcat about the separate rooms thing, I make OH lie on the very edge of the bed as far away as possible as I cannot bear the heat, I have no covers on and he rolls himself in the covers like a swiss roll!

I have only been on tamoxifen for 3 weeks and am already sick of the sweats. A friend is giving me a chillow on Sunday as it doesn’t get cold enough for her(she’s been having sweats for 9 tears!). Same friend tried a magnet but gave up with it when it fell out while she was crossing the road! Got clonidine from my GP this week and am waiting for the miracle of feeling cool. Will let you know how things go on Sunday night.

Hi Elsie, just seen your post - and Nicky’s here too! Perhaps we’re better on this thread. We’re obviously all too hot stuff to carry on in the chemo forums!

In a funny way it feels kind of ‘cooler’ (sorry!) to be here now as we’re all at this stage (dunno why I’m using that sodding word, hate it as much as ‘grade’). Get yourself over here Pat!

xJacqx

P.S. Was going to say Lyn too, but that’s you Elsie - you do confuse me unnecessarily! lol!

Hello ladies

A quick tip that worked for me last night. Filled a hot water bottle with cold water and then stuck it in the freezer, took it to bed with me, BLISS! Slept much better

Louise

Hi Louise, what a simple idea - why didn’t I think of that?

You’re never gonna believe this … just been clearing out a bit more of the garage 'cos youngest is moving flats and wants room to store some stuff and - just 10 minutes ago - chucked out a hot water bottle - thinking ‘I’ll never, ever need that again’! Am off to see if I can dig it out!

DANG, I had the HWB in the freezer all day and although I took it out well before bedtime, it was still a block of ice and rather damp in bed. So I reckon 2 hours is the right time to leave it in the freezer, lol.

Hope it worked out for you, Jac

Hi ladies,
decided to post on here than lie melting in bed! Never thought of trying chilled HWB-need to give it a go!
Started on Nolvadex D tonight as alternative to generic tamoxifen, so hoping that it will give less SE. My brother in law who is a pharmacist says it is a “cleaner” drug…don’t know what that says about the cheap ones they dish out???..not expecting overnight results but hoping things improve.
Sitting dripping over the keyboard as I speak!!! AAArrrrggghhh!!
Yes Jacqui we will need to get Pat over here too…and I didn’t mean to confuse you! LOL!
Anyway that’s daughter just come in from work (nightclub!) so off to try and sleep again.
Lyn xx

Hi all! Did you see it’s gonna be 29 degrees this week? Tut!

D’ya know what … that hot water bottle was never seen again! I know I’ve got a few in the house, but can’t find one of them.

Lyn, I keep moaning about my aching ankles since I’ve been on Femara - on 3rd month - but then I read on another site that said the more that your joints ache … the more the drug is working re: keeping the cancer at bay. Bring on the pain! (I’ll be a masochist yet!)

Love to all. xJacqx

Also meant to mention that - for the last few days - I’ve been taking: 1. a Calcium and Vit. D tablet; 2. a multi-vit., and 3. a Tesco Complete Omega 3, 6 & 9 tablet.

Don’t laugh! The difference they’ve made is unbelievable! I used to want to cry when I got up in the mornings, and now I’m much more mobile. (Oh yeah, and I turned the mattress over, so it could be that!)

xJacqx

So this is where you are Jacq, causing mayhem and madness, no doubt!! The HWB is a great tip, will def try that if sweats get worse. Must admit though that at night it’s not so bad, have fan on full blast and all the windows open. God help poor OH in the winter… Magnet seems to be helping me so will persevere with it.

Chillow sounds good too and it’s not too expensive so worth a try. 29 degrees Jacq, we’ll be melting! I went out without wig for first time yesterday and it felt great, even though it’s really light, when I have a hot flush it’s so uncomfortable with it on. How’s everyone else’s hair doing? Grows soooooo slow, not quick enough for me anyway. Wonder if MiracleGro would help…

love and hugs Pat x

thank goodness I am not the only one sweating the nights away. Haven’t had a decent sleep for ages. My problem is that in between the sweats I get really cold so I spend the whole night throwing covers off and then pulling them on every blooming half hour. Can’t think of a solution to this one!
