Choice of two hospitals - What to consider?

I started diagnosis at a local smaller hospital, 20mins journey from home, but due to a complicated situation I needed an MRI biopsy, so I was referred to a large city hospital 1hrs and 20mins from home. The surgeon at the city hostital says that after receiving the results of the MRI biopsy next week, I am free to choose to return to my local hospital for surgery, or stay at the city hospital.

So my question is: what criterea would you suggest for deciding which hospital to have my surgery at? (In either choice I would be returning to the local hospital for chemo).

Things already on my list to consider are: length of wait for surgery; ratings on NHS Choices website (slightly better fr local hosp.); transport costs; consistency of relationship with treatment team.

Thanks for any help or suggestions anyine can make, it’s much appreciated!

P.S. Diagnosis: RH breast: IDC in 2 places + diffuse multifocal areas: treatment = mastectomy. LH breast: ILC in one place, unknown 2nd area (awaiting result from MRI biopsy) treatment = WLE or mastectomy

Ninianne, Maybe if you posted your location someone might know the hospitals involved and be able to give advice.
If not, it also might be worth while asking about the surgeons available, and if possible look into them? It may well be the case that the surgeons work in both locations - mine worked in multiple hospitals.
Sorry that I cant offer anything better, but wishing your the very best
Marguerite

Thanks for your comments, Marguerite, I think I’ve decided to go with the local hospital.
