Hi all
I have been ringing round and it looks as if we could be accommodated at:
The Tate Modern (we would need to confirm rough numbers in advance so they could bake enough scones!). Depending on numbers we could go to the Tate Level 7 or the Level 2 if we are up nearer the hundred.
The South Bank Centre could possibly help us too. There is the Royal Festival Hall, Riverside Terrace which would be great. They say they are big enough to accommodate us but, like the Tate Modern, they couldn’t reserve an area for us (officially) but could probably reach some arrangement with us as we are going to be mid-week and we could let them choose the time.
When I asked about cost the Tate Modern (bless them) said that tea was £1.80 and with a scone £3.00. I think that if we want plates of sandwiches etc we might have a bit of negotiating to do and that might be difficult if we aren’t prepared to commit to deposits etc.
My feeling is that if we are ever to get this off the ground - we say we are going to meet on 6th May (be it Tate Modern or South Bank Centre ), get a rough idea of numbers, accept that we might not get it quite right first time round and go for it.
Do have a look at the Eating and Drinking parts of the Tate and South Bank websites and see what you think.
That sounds fantastic, Blondie. I think this sounds more relaxed than our previous plans and will allow us to chat at leisure without being hurried out for the next sitting. Tea & scone at £4.80 sounds fantastic! I quite fancy tea and scones this afternoon actually…
I am happy to keep 6 May even if my back stuff prevents me from going but will work on the assumption that all will be ok(ish) by then. Also agree with you about giving something a go even if not everyone can do it and we might get it a bit wrong first time. I am happy to help with the organisation - had a bit of a manic moment on Friday when faced with more vertebroplasty, PET scan for progress report, Ritz going on about numbers, credit card and getting a posting from BCC about soliciting deposits… you know how it is… so give me a shout. I also have names of those who wanted to go if you need them, blondie.
I can make it plus my other 3 friends from here and probably another friend of mine in Dorset as she was keen to go to the Ritz.
Belinda - hoping to make the Grantchester one depending on what date it is - went past the turning today on way to Addenbrooks so at least know where it roughly is!
Sounds a really good idea - and much friendlier than the Ritz! Thanks so much Blondie for taking on the organisation and ringing around. I’m actually happy to meet anywhere really - just so long as I can get something to eat and drink! ANd May 6th is still fine with me.
I have to wait til 18 March when my next Herceptin to see if I can change my date by a day for the one on 6 May. So will have to let you know, but would love to come along.
Sounds a great idea Blondie. I particularly like the idea of the South Bank as I like that area but both places are great and sounds more relaxed than the Ritz. I will try and make it. Tues May 6th is a good day for me as long as I can get my bloods done the day before as my chemo day is Wednesday and as I’m only starting weekly chemo and fortnightly Avastin next week I don’t know how I’ll be yet but please count me in for now. Will be travelling there and back from Wales probably on train although I may have to be in London around then for a PET scan anyway so might be able to combine the 2.
Thanks for the ideas. I think either of those would be the best bet.
Hi All,
I’d still be up for the 6th MAy as Im going to take sis to London as a thanks for looking after me. Just let me know where and what time and hope to see you all there.
I’m happy to do any ringing round too if it helps. I have found that the Oragery at Kensington Palace was willing to accommodate a lot of us should we ever getto do the really big Cinders Day, I’ll keep email from them just incase. The Tate Modern is great idea for a smaller more informal meet.
Hi All
I will be going down to London on 16th March and I will try to do a recce of the Royal Festival Hall as we are going to a concert there and will attempt to have a look at the Tate, although I have been there I haven’t been in the cafe so don’t know how suitable it would be for our needs (looks great on the website!) - we may need to call on Julie’s expertise. My only concern is that I will have Mum (aged 80) with me and I am not sure how ‘up for it’ she will be for a sprint down to the Tate Modern. I was looking for ways to extend our day, seeing what events were on etc, and found out that Vinopolis is a short walk away and does Champagne Tasting Tours for £32.50, but it is closed on a Tuesday and Wednesday; that might be a possibility for another time:
It looks as if there could be 18 of us going and, of course, I have a Herceptin treatment and an Oncologist appointment on that day that I will have to get moved(!) but this is really looking do-able.
I’ve been getting confused with all the seperate meeting arrangements so I’m not sure where my name has been put down! Please count me in on this one, i think the other South East meet in Guildford is a bit too far for me to travel
Seems that the London meet is still on?? If thinking about the Royal Festival Hall complex, there are several smaller venues within the Southbank Centre.
Hi All
Sunday was dreadful weather (very wet and windy) and I just couldn’t ask Mum to run up and down the river bank checking out venues so (unless anyone else can suggest something from local knowledge) I suggest the Royal Festival Hall, Riverside Terrace Cafe, 3.00pm Tuesday 6 May for our first meet. We could meet by the Shop on the ‘Blue side’ of the venue (there is only one Gift Shop) and then find enough seats to get together as we can take our drinks/food anywhere on the ground level (level 2) or even outside by the river it the weather is kind.
I think that there could be about 20 of us and, not knowing how many are going to turn up or who anyone is (or how busy the venues are going to be) - I think that picking somewhere with movable seating and a big meeting area would be best. I am sure I could be more specific re meeting place etc nearer the time and we could all wear a red carnation and carry a rolled newspaper, spy-style, or something equally corny as an identifier. If we can agree on a date, place and time then I am sure that we can finalise the meeting details nearer the time.
