Hello everyone, it almost 3am and I’m wide awake thinking alsorts! I went to my gp late November after discovering a lump on my right breast, after examining me my gp said I had quite a lumpy breast and the lump I was feeling was probably a cyst. She said she would refer me to the breast clinic at the local hospital to be checked over but I wasn’t to worry. It’s now 13 weeks on and Iv not yet received my appointment. The lump is still very much there and I occasionally feel a almost stabbing pain, though I think I probably have caused the pain with my continual pressing and probing at the lump.
Can anyone tell me how long is usual to wait for an appointment to be seen at the clinic. I have started to become anxious and the last few weeks have been struggling to sleep. I have been trying to remain positive but am struggling a bit now. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Julie
I think you have waited long enough and you should get onto your GP and check that the referral was sent. I think if the GP thinks it might be anything to worry about or you are over 40 you get an appointment within two weeks but I don’t know how long you have to wait if the GP is not concerned or you are younger. Anyway I think you should have heard by now. If I were you I would chase it up so you can get an appointment at the clinic and put your mind at rest. I have had cysts in the past and prodding them certainly made them tender. I do hope you get seen soon and can get some sleep at last. All the best
Jane
Hi Julie ![]()
You should not have been waiting 13 weeks to get an appointment at a Breast Clinic - even if your GP thought you were ‘non urgent’.
It’s entirely possible that something has been mislaid at some stage. (It’s happened to me, non BC related - a letter about a hospital appointment was never received even though it had been made).
Please speak to your GP’s secretary on Monday, explain (tell her how anxious you are) and I’m sure they’ll get in touch with the Breast Clinic to sort it out for you.
Good luck - let us know how you get on. :)
xx
Thank you ladies for your replys. I will definitely contact my gp on Monday. I didn’t realise if you were over 40 you should be seen within 2 weeks, I’m 41.
