Cloned and Mutated ? What does this mean?

Hi Girls,

Was wondering if anyone could shed light on what I was told today?

Had invasive primary 4 year ago, hormone positive, had wle, chemo, rads and hormone treatment.

New high grade DCIS found this summer and just had mastectomy and immediate recon. Went for results of surgery today - DCIS is a new primary that is hormone negative and surgeon told me that it was a clone of original cancer that had mutated by not having hormone receptors on it as I was on exemastane. My results were good as the cancer is not invasive this time and no more treatment needed but haven’t a clue about all this other info. Has anyone else been told stuff similar?? I presume it is good news. Am seeing onocologist next week to check on right meds so will ask her.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Sarah

I noticed you didnt have any replies on this thread, perhaps you were an unsual case!

Did you have any joy with the onc (Professionally speaking of course)
Were they able to answer your questions?

Cheers

Hi cb - saw my onc last week and she told me that the dcis this year was not related at all to old tumor and they went back and checked my original mamograms and results to check that they hadn’t missed anything originally. She told me that me breast had always been ‘mouldy’ - strange choice of words!! - and basically had to go - which it has. Interestingly she thinks nearly all women under 40 have a faulty gene but the genes are still to be discovered. Hence as I had original cancer at 34 and new primary at 38 will be having other breast off in February.
I think my surgeon was just using fancy words just to confuse me!!
Will just be glad that by Easter all surgery and recon will be finished and I will never have that stress of waiting for results from another mamogram again. Luckily this time I don’t need chemo or radio.
Roll on next summer when hopefully my new boobs will be expanded to look lovely!!
Take Care
