cocktail of Docetaxel, carboplatin, then herceptin. V frustrated waiting for a start date

Hi,

I’m due to have the above combo for 6 rounds of chemo after having 2 ops. The first was to remove the lump the second was the take a safer margin of tissue away. My lymphs are clear but it’s HER2 positive and oestrogen positive.

I’m really frustrated waiting for my dates and the more I wait, the more I read about side effects and dangers etc and the more worried I get!!

Up until today I felt fine about the prospect of losing my newly cut short hair but I burst into tears today about the idea of kids (I’m a teacher and a mum) laughing at me. I plan to wear a whole variety of hats and scarves, the funkier the better (my son says). It’ll be obvious that I am a cancer patient and I have been strong so far, I just am not looking forward to the sympathetic stares and glances.

I’ve chosen not to wear a wig and hope to be proud enough of my head not to worry too much but today I’ve been really weepy about it.

I’m fed up of waiting now and I just want the whole thing to start.

Sorry to rant on but this waiting is killing me, I need to map out the next few months so I can plan my life around it.

x

Hi,
I have just finished my course of exactly the same, it is frustating waiting for a start date, I can remember back in January feeling the same way but it will come and when it does it goes so quickly! The side effects for me were not nearly as bad as I thought they would a few days afterwards I feel pretty wiped out but it does only last for a few days, I have lost 90 percent of my hair and wear a wig I just wouldnt feel comfortable in anything else, but i do realise that it a very personal choice and whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Listen to your body if you need to relax and do not a lot then do it! Also another thing for me personally was nausea in the first few sessions, after suffering a bit I asked for some help and they gave me emend which is really good.

Remember it can be hard but it is doable! I was feeling so much like you and I got there!

Best wishes Emma xx
