Cold cap and shedding with EC-T or AC-T

Thank you so much for the information.
Hair fibres sounds like a plan. Did you or anyone have headaches for days after the cold cap?
My care team are saying that it’s the cold cap causing them rather than the chemo. I was on epirubicin at the time. I’m Going onto weekly Taxol & hoping I don’t get the headaches again with only a week in between to recover.

@willow.1 Yes I got bad headaches from the cold cap. I think I had the tights tied too tightly around it however I loosened it and have a lot of shedding this week but this might have happened anyway. But I have only got those headaches on AC and not on Taxol. So may be the combination of AC and cold cap.

Update. Now 8 weeks after final chemo and my hairdresser says that despite long bits still falling out there’s new growth at the scalp. Still keeping it covered (hairdresser says there aren’t any bald patches, but feels super thin to me ).Attended a headwrappers session which was really good and obtained a few more turbans from Preloved reloved, the amazing Jo !!!
Think I’ll be so used to covering my hair soon i’ll miss them !!!

@Vibby great to hear! I am still shedding but not so bad as before and have decent regrowth underneath. I am not sure what to do when the hair starts growing and different lengths but will have to wait and see. Paxman says don’t rush to change styles as growth can fill in quickly so clinging on to this. I don’t have major bald patches but it’s very light all over.

How is everyone else faring?

That is the question isn’t it @SL255, mine is getting longer now and I look like Milton Jones’ long lost twin sister and I have no idea what to do with it! If I comb it and pull it back in the worlds teeniest tiniest pony tail, it almost normal to those who might not have known me pre cancer but I still feel like it looks really weird.

I’m having surgery on Monday, but I was thinking I’d go in to the hairdresser at some point afterwards and see if they had any thoughts on what to do with it. I don’t really want to pay the price of a normal haircut though… :joy: Decisions, decisions.

@kartoffel Yes would love to hear how people have managed the differing lengths. I have kept about 30% I would say and if it was all the same colour might not be noticeable. Will take it day by day and I think the best I can hope for is to trim what’s left and then at some point they will meet but I don’t want to cut it now and will give it a few months to see what happens. Also given that everyone is so different and I am still lightly shedding every day I am still hoping I will have enough to manage.

Best of luck with your surgery!

Hi gromit12, I’m new to the forum. I would love to know which compression socks you used. I’m heading for round 2 of Paclitaxel and already have tingling.

I didn’t use them and now wish I did, as 4 months post end of chemo I’ve got quite severe neuropathy of fingers and feet. At the time it just didn’t seem a priority, but knowing what I now know I’d definitely try it xxx

Hello i stopped my cold capp after the second round as i noticed about a week later my hair was coming out daily… it as worked to some extent but i decided it was too stressful to continue if it was going to come out. My hair as always been thin though too. Good luck 🩷

Hi, I got these off Amazon- it’s the 20- 30 mmHg that’s key. Still wearing them at night 8 weeks post chemo- though still having herceptin

@SL255 Forgot to come back and reply to this point, how have you managed with your hair? I ended up having a trim a few weeks back which made mine look slightly more intentionally shaggy since he cleaned up the long straggly mullet bits and tidied up the top “layers”. He said to come back in about 3 weeks and he could do a little more but I haven’t had time to go back yet. I’ve now got about 1.5-2 cm new growth that’s just sticking up through the top part of my hair which is fun to try and disguise. Overall it’s getting back to normal thickness, except for on the back of my head which is still rather flat.

Thank you so much for your speedy reply.
I have some NHS socks that I was given before my surgery - the ones with the hole/ gap on the toes. Would these have the correct compression?
Are we looking for compression of the feet/ legs or both?

thanks

I can’t be 100% on yours, but the ones I got from my hospital were a bit lighter on compression than the ones in the 20 - 30 mmHg range like those @gromit12 shared.

Thanks,
I’m finding it hard to see a pair on amazon that would fit. I’ve really big feet and skinny calves. (size 9 shoe and 13.5" calves)
My next treatment is in 2 days time so I starting to stress

The study that looked at compression for avoiding peripheral neuropathy said this “The optimal size for compression socks was determined by the circumference of the patient’s ankles and calves.”

Based on that, either get some calf sleeves that fit your calves properly or the socks with the cut out for the toes because there’s no way you’re fitting your feet in the regular socks if you’ve bought the correct size for your calves. My feet are smack dab in the middle of the size range for the pair I have and it’s hard enough to get into those!

It looks like the ones the study used are these ones which might be better for you on the sizing: https://amzn.eu/d/5sRLOu0

Don’t think the hospital ones are good enough compression. And I think best for feet and calves. Good luck!

Thanks for coming back @kartoffel
Getting on ok. Still shedding a little bit every day which I hoped would have stopped by now at 8 weeks post chemo. On style I think it is ok. Got about 1-2cm growth too so beginning to fill in and can mask it with hair fibers enough to go without a hat. I am not there yet on differing lengths but shaggy look sounds good! Smart idea! Need to cut it as it has got very long but will only do that once I am happy to leave it down.
But hopefully will continue to make progress. X

The pixie mullet is apparently the trendy haircut now, so we’re just really ahead of the curve… :joy:

I thought about getting some of that hair fiber stuff but then whilst I was dithering, my hair filled in to the point where it’s not necessary any longer (think I’m 2.5 months PFC now). I still have the little stubby ponytail so I might get one of those fake buns at some point. Probably I’ll just continue pulling it back and being lazy though.

Bloody beautiful :two_hearts::two_hearts:
