Hi, late to the thread but i thought I’d add in my experience.
I’m cold capping mainly to manage my hair loss and regrowth. My theory is that if I see my hair thinning slowly rather than falling out in clumps then the emotional side of loosing my hair and having shave it off won’t be too much for me to handle. As you know I’m sure, your hair becomes incredibly precious when you’re told it’s going to fall out. But of course not as precious as your life when your told you have cancer. For me this just gives me a little (extremely cold) emotional cushion while I’m dealing with it all.
Don’t get me wrong, all you absolute warriors out there that have braved the bald head are incredible! I admire you and often wonder if I’d rock a bald head as well as you guys are but I also have 2 very small children who I’m trying to keep things as normal as possible for so I’m persevering with the cap… for now.
My team are great and they make sure I’m dosed up on pain meds as I find it a little sore on my scalp now, and they have chosen the best size cap for me and layer me up with blankets and heat pads on my lap.
When I’m home I brush my hair twice a day to remove any fallen hair, make sure it’s up and out of my face so I don’t constantly have to lint roller my hairs that have fallen during the day. I wash it once a week, sometimes 2 if I’m feeling itchy - I find the dry skin and loose hair to be a bit uncomfortable at times. I’ve switched to baby shampoo and a leave in detangling conditioner to make brushing easier. I am still using my hair dryer and hair straightener but both on the coolest setting and only once a week. My hair is unmanageable when left to its own devices. Just think Hermione granger in the first Harry Potter film :joy: love her and her wild hair. I’ve had to change where my hair parts from to cover a bald spot on my crown - I assume from where my head rubs on my pillow - and I’ve got 2 bald patches above my ears, strangely where I wear my sun glasses so I assume they are the culprits.
All in all I still have a good covering of hair.
I’m 4 cycles in with EC and due to start paclitaxol in 2.5 weeks.
I wish you all the most luck, positive vibes and of course just remember it’s only hair. It will grow back and you look so beautiful all the time. You’re a warrior who’s battling cancer and you can still want to look glamorous. I certainly do.
Oh and just one last thing, I read somewhere that the cold cap can actually support a healthy regrowth after your finished chemo. By cooling the follicles it helps with their regrowth and development so even if your hair does fall out, your healthy follicles will thank you in the long run

I had 12 weekly Paclitaxel and kept most of my hair, some shredding and two patches above my ears. Due to glasses wearing under the cap, don’t do that wear them over the top. I did have a very sensitive scalp and wore a woolly hat for a long time, just a breeze felt uncomfortable :persevere:

Great information can be found www.lookgoodfeelbetter.co.uk www.cancerhaircare.co.uk [Jasmin does the sessions for LGFB and recommends affordable products that they have tested]
www.coldcap.com Paxman website they also have videos on how to put on etc. I found this useful as some of the nurses were trying to be quick and cut out vital steps.

Well done sounds like my experience. Hung on to enough hair to cover things up but it went above ears and at temples . Paclitaxel is less vicious so hopefully you’ll keep most . It’s well worth it

I am doing a lot similar to you in terms of the cap. One thing I was told baby shampoo is quite harsh on hair ironically so look for paraben free like Elave or Moo Goo.
Good luck with the rest of your rounds…

Ah that’s good to hear. I shall keep on with the cap and hopefully have some hair to play with once I’m done

I did wonder about the baby shampoo as it made my hair feel particularly dry once I’d used it, but obviously you thinking it’s good enough for delicate baby hair then it must be good enough for me. I think I’ll switch back to my usual shampoo, that was already free from nasties anyway
