Comfort eating

There has been so long between appointments that I have found myself comfort eating…HOW do I stop…hope someone has the answer!

I comfort eat during my treatment and it wasnt until after my op that i had a wake up call. I have yo-yo dieted and comfort eat all my life, i just love food but after my op ive become really bl**dy scared of getting it back. At 35 and with no reason for my breast cancer, ie no history in family i wonder if its because of my eating thats caused it so that is what keeps me focussed, i cant manage all the fruit and veg thats recommended a day and i still have a glass of wine but i have stopped eating food that really hasnt got any nutritional value to my body and as i said in another post i put my knife and fork down when i start to feel full, it really works and ive lost loads of weight, but i dont think there is any magic thing thats going to help you stop, I think you will know when your ready to change, you have to be in the right zone, maybe have a think about is this how you really want to treat your body. but dont be to hard on yourself your probably going through a bl**dy rotten time and who doesnt when they have cancer. maybe if you really cant stop then try doing a bit of walking or just fit in a bit of exercise in the day, im sure your body will appreciate this.

Good luck and take care

i was comfort eating too but 3 weeks after my op my mum said i should think about going organic because of all the chemicals on an in the food we eat. as i also have no family history an they couldnt say why i got breast cancer since going organic i only eat 3 meals a day an no nibbling in between because they isnt that much choice i have only found healthy things to nibble on like fruit etc so you tend to think oh i will wait for me tea where if there was a packet of choc biscuits i would eat half a dozen

take care x

I am a comfort eater too - and had put on a stone in weight during the year leading up to my diagnosis, so yes I too wonder if that is a factor.

I have put on about 5 lbs - I usually lose it again post chemo when my mouth is sore and I can’t eat much. I do eat the healthy stuff, I just have the bread and sweet stuff also - I’ve never eaten so much ice cream.

We are planning to tackle our diet and get more exercise - I just don’t have the energy at the moment and swimming is my choice, which I can’t do during treatment.

I think the best thing is everything in moderation - allow yourself some treats and try to find something healthy that’s comforting too - mine is strawberries at the moment. Also my partner has started making soup - watercress and carrot & corriander - they are really delicious and comforting.

Take care

Glad I am not the only one… I am out walking and playing with the children all day but I am also grazing the whole day…mmmm…willl try harder. Thank you!

I find my blood sugar drops really quickly as well. Before all this that would be fine, but since the ops I had and my first chemo I find I feel terrible if my blood sugar drops, so I’m nibbling on chocolate and stuff. I really, really want to get back to doing normal exercise, but just don’t have the energy at the mo - I’m hoping to start on my yoga again next week.
