Concerned

Sorry you probably get many posts like this one…I just wanted to express my concern regarding a lump in my breast.

I’ve had this particular lump for a number of years now. I don’t ever remember “finding” it, I just remember being concerned about it when I was around 14. My mum and I went to the doctor, he examined me and assured me it’s nothing to worry about. I don’t recall his exact explanation though. I’m nearly 18 now and it’s still there. The lump is in my right breast, it’s very firm, and on the side close to the middle of my chest. Every so often there is sharp pain in that breast, and it is also slightly larger than the other.

I’m thinking of going back to the doctor…just for some reassurance…or to act on anything problematic.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I can’t help the worry. Does what I’ve described sound “normal”…or serious? :s

Thankyou

When I clicked on the link to this thread it said I had two comments…but for some reason I can’t see the them. So I’m posting this comment to see what happens.

edit: still nothing. not sure what’s going on.

Hi there mannix

Welcome to the BCC forums, I have added a link to a Breast Cancer Care publication on breast awareness that you may find helpful, it can either be downloaded or ordered via the helpline on freephone 0808 800 6000, you can talk to one of our specialist nurses on this number regarding your concerns if you feel this would be of help, the line opens weekdays 9-5 and Sat 9-2.

Dear Mannix, you are very young to have these worries.Your doctor would have sent you for further tests if he was at all conscerned about the lump. But do go back and tel him of the sharp pain you have been having and of your worries. It doesn’t sound like breast cancer to me and I’m sure he’ll be able to put your mind at rest!
