confused on my results

I was diagnosed on the 23 Oct with pre invasive DCIS cancer ER+ve.  10mm in size, the nurse wrote this all down for us at the time. Was told I was lucky as found it really early and hopefully lump removal with margins and then radiotherapy afterwards. Had a lumpectompy last Thursday with sentinel lymph node biopsy, surgeon came to see me and was very happy with operation.

Today I had a copy of the letter to my GP with the original diagnosis…Grade ll invasive cancer plus high grade DCIS. WTF!!! really shocked to see ‘invasive cancer’ now having a total panic that this is not as good as we thought it was… I don’t go to see my surgeon till next Wed. Would my Breast cancer care nurse be able to explain it to me… :smileysad:

Hi, yes, if you don’t want to wait until next week speak with your BCN as she will be able to explain it to you and can clarify your diagnosis. I have the invasive one, grade 2 also, apparently it’s the most common one to have. Try not to worry about the types as the main thing is that it’s now been removed and they will prepare a treatment plan for you. Sissy xx

Hi Nicki I think the word " invasive" really freaks people out,I know it did me.It means the cancer has the potential spread not that it has or will.It has been caught very small, most women seem to have an area of DCIS as well on removal of the tumour .Like Sissy says good idea to ring BC nurse for clarification as you seem to have been misled ,although lots of women’s diagnosis changes a little post surgery when further information is gathered .
