confused

I was recently referred to breast clinic by my GP after finding a hard area in my breast. The consultant agreed there was a clear area of thickening and sent me for a mammogram which I have had today. I am a bit confused about the outcome the mammogram definetly showed an area of concerning tissue and they took an additional 2 shots using what she described as a paddle. The area of concern is exactly where the hard tissue is.
I was then told I would probably need a biopsy and sent for an ultrasound and but the ultrasound technician couldn’t find anything.
I was told they would review the films and findings and I would get the result within 2/3 weeks.
On the one hand I am trying to be positive that the ultrasound didn’t show anything but given that 2 medics and the mammogram definitely found something it’s left me confused and worried in case the ultrasound technician has missed something. If she had said she could see the area and it was nothing to worry about I could understand it more.
I now have what seems a long wait and even more uncertainty has anyone been through anything similar

Hi! I am no medic or diagnostician, so wouldn’t want to try to ‘explain’ what it happening. But what has become clear to me is that all these things seem to present in so many different ways. I suppose that’s why they have the triple assessment, so that they don’t just rely on one method to diagnose. Probably much like you I have been reading loads recently, since they found a spot at a routine mammogram. When I went to the follow-up the doctor couldn’t feel anything; not surprising as the area was so small. Nor could the ultrasound pick anything up. But the spot is clearly there. They couldn’t biopsy, though they tried as it was in an awkward position. But they are following it all up, not dismissing it as unimportant just because ultrasound didn’t pick anything up.

I am sorry you have to wait 2-3 weeks. It must feel like a terribly long time to you! I do hope it will be OK in the end, but even if it is a something I think there is plenty of stories on this site how people do well in the end even when they have to have treatment.

All the best!

The other thing you could do is speak to the breast care nurse at the clinic - hopefully you saw one? You could ask her to explain this to you more fully. Waiting is really hard but better for them to review fully. Did they inform you how you would get the result? If not, then again I would take up with the breast care nurse.
