Confusing post lumpectomy results

Hi everyone, I had good news yesterday (which I am very grateful for) but am confused by the results and wondered if anyone had similar. I had 2 lots of biopsies in June (first was inconclusive, second was vaccum assisted, took 14 samples). Was given dignosis of dcis about 3cm. I had my lumpectomy (WLE) a month ago, was told it would be a case of having clear margins, then probably radiotherapy, or possibility of another op if cancer cells were found in margains. When I got my results yesterday, the doctor said good news, all clear. No radiotherapy needed. I asked if I had dcis in one breast did that increase the chances of having it in the other. He said if I had dcis then yes, but that I didn’t have it. I said, you mean you’ve removed it, he said no, it was just tissue damage. While I am obviously very pleased, I am also utterly confused. Does this mean my diagnosis was wrong? That after 18 biopsy samples it was still wrong? That I had an op for no reason? Or doctor giving results was wrong? I should feel happy today. But I just feel low and weepy (partly hormones I think, as I have come off HRT recently). I am speaking to breast care nurse on Monday to try and make sense if it - has anyone had similar? I feel completely blindsided at being told I haven’t had cancer/pre cancer after wrapping my head around it for 3 month of appointments and waiting for results. I just don’t know how to feel (other than ungrateful that I don’t feel happy) xx

Welcome to the forum .
I had similar but with a different cancer ( womb) I had biopsy taken and was told I had an aggressive form of womb cancer spent 3 months terrified and expecting chemo etc and after a full hysterectomy the pathology results showed only pre cancerous cells no aggressive invasive cancer at all . The Consultant expected me to be pleased which I was but also very confused .He told me this over the phone and was reluctant to see me face to face but I demanded an appointment to discuss .When we discussed it he said the only explanation he could give was “ these things happen in medicine “!! It’s very confusing when this happens it left me feeling very uneasy .
