Constantly tired newbie

Hi I’m new to the forum.

It’s about a year ago tha I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in my spine and lower back. After several stints in hospital and radiotherapy alongside trial drugs and 4 weekly clinic visits; I thought I was turning a corner. I had some energy and managed a few hours out of the house. Recently I have reverted back to feeling tired all the time, and not wanting to get out of bed. I slep from 9pm to 9:30 am with and afternoons nap of around three hours. During the last few weeks I have found it incredibly hard to get out of bed in the morning and after my afternoon sleep. I try to mentally kick myself in to action, but this is increasingly being a struggle. Any advice?

Thanks x

Hello nikki
First of all welcome to the forum and I hope you will find help and kindness here.
I think having secondaries does create a tiredness depending on the treatment you aRe having.
I have extensive bone mets and the last few weeks have got into a bad habit of an afternoon nap too …
As I’m retired I don’t have the problem of going to work and can let my body do it’s own thing!!
I do make myself go out daily and try to move around in the house as much as possible.
Sending hugs xxx

Hi Nikki

Welcome to the forum. Treatment can cause tiredness but you do seem to need alot of sleep. Before cancer did you require alot of sleep anyway. I would mention it next time you see oncologist.

Before the cancer I needed 6 hours sleep but now I do tend to need more could be I am now 65 and was 57 when diagnosed with breast cancer and bone mets.

Feel free to ask me any queries you may have

Take care of yourself.

Hi I am also new to this forum . I have bone Mets and also tumour on my right lung . Iam on maintenance treatment of Herceprin , perjeta, denasumab , also daily Letrazole tablets . I found that I am extremely tired in the afternoon to the point if I stay still for long enough I will fall asleep! I am up and running In the morning ( well , can’t run anymore as am I am in constant pain ) , working 4 days a week . My combo seem to be working as last scan shown so I am prepared to go along with side effects for as long as possible ( I say it now , might change my mind later when it gets too much ! )
I take painkillers for pain daily , trying to enjoy things I can still do and overall trying to keep positive attitude , which is not always easy ! But I find inspiration in my two beautiful girls x

Morning Capricorn

Welcome to the forum. You seem quite young as you mention your girls.

You are on alot of different treatments which may be contributing to your tiredness.

I worked 4 days a week until 2015 when I retired as I was 63. I found working kept me occupied so I was not constantly thinking about cancer.
.
Have you mentioned it to your oncologist?

Keep in touch. The forum has been a life line for me for over 8 years now.
