Hi Laura,

I have put for you below the link to BCC’s publication regarding exercise after surgery which may help your cording problems.

Hey

I had mx & full anc clearance back in August & still have good & bad days as far as movement & discomfort goes…think it depends a lot on how I’ve been sleeping the night before!

I would say if it’s painful rather than just uncomfortable speak to your BCN on Monday & get a referral to the physio who’ll be able to give you guidance. Don’t leave it until Wednesday, as the sooner you get the advice the sooner you can start on sorting out the cording…chances are it’ll get worse the longer you leave it! It’s still early days for you, but your BCN is there to help!

Good Luck!

Hi Laura64,

I had my mastectomy and full node removal in September and I’m due to start radiotherapy next week so needed to get my arm above my head. I have cording from my armpit to my right hand (and unfortunately I’m right handed). My BCN got me an immediate appointment with a physio who made a huge difference within a few days. She gave gentle massage to the whole area and recommended that I get strong painkillers from my GP to allow me to do the exercises. She told me that although the exercises are painful you won’t do any damage to either your wound or the cording. It is still painful if I don’t take the meds but I do now have good use of my arm.

Hi, have you thought about using a hot water bottle, BUT, filled with cold water? It worked for me
I had a mx in July, followed by rads and Tamoxifen.
All went well, only in hospital over night for mx, and felt well until after rads. After rads arm pit came up like a balloon! My theory was that I was doing too much at the alottment. It always seemed worse at night when I was trying to sleep. So tried trusty water bottle filled with cold water, inside a pillow case.
It worked for me, also helped with night sweats. Only needed to do this a couple of times for armpit, but still keep water bottle handy to keep me cool at night.
