core biopsy awaiting results need to talk!

Hi Everyone, I’m a newbie!
Story so far:
Went to the doctors with a breast lump and had an urgent referral to the breast clinic, hospital rang same day with appointment 6 days later,.
First I had a mammogram, then repeated on left breast followed by an ultrasound at which point it was revealed as a cyst they drained it, I though that was that.
I was then called in to the consultant he told me although the lump was just a cyst they had found an abnormal shadow that showed up on mammogram but not on the ultrasound. An appointment was made for 5 days later for a core biopsy.
I returned I had a mammogram again and it was repeated 4 times nothing showed up, another ultrasound was done and this time it showed up on there!
Anyway I had the core biopsy done Wednesday and was told they would be having a meeting Monday morning?? and results would take a week, next day yesterday (Thurs) an appointment to return is for this coming Monday afternoon.
Not even a week, I am worried they have found something because it is so quick or is this normal? Can anybody offer me some advice.
Love andBest wishes to all of you on here

Hi Denie,

I can’t give you any advice but I am sure some of the other ladies on this site will, they are very supportive.

My story is almost the same as yours. Doctors, then 6 days later hospital, 2 mammograms, ultrasound and three core biopsies (all on the same day). That was 8 days ago. I also get my results this coming Monday afternoon after the MDT meeting. I guess we are both having the same thoughts and riding the emotional rollercoaster. Try to be positive, we only have today and tomorrow to suffer this uncertainty.

I am thinking about you and send you a big hug.

Hi Denie

Hope your results turn out okay. I had two cysts which were drained and told they would be okay. However after last mamogram I was called into the hospital more mamograms, core biopsy and was told unfortunately I needed surgery. I went for one operation on Valentines day of all days, only to be told there was another operation needed on mothers day. These were undertake and I was given radio therapy treatment. Finished that and am now waiting to see the oncologist on Monday 29.10. We will see what he now says.

I will be thinking of you on Monday.

Best Wishes

I too am seeing Con on Monday - best of luck all.

hi this is just what happened to me. i found a lump referred to consultant for mammogram. nothing showed up i said y a lump, oh its a cyst. They drained it, still somthing there. Then i had an ultrasound scan and to b on safe side they did a core biopsy. lymph glands looked OK. The results would be rung through Fri between 5 and 6 well 10.30 am had a call to visit consultant in pm clinic. i asked y.They said found cancer.I went and it was decided to do lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy. the results following Fri. i went again lymph clear but found two more spots in safety area so now recommends mastectomy to b on safe side. i am waiting for this now… everything they done to b on safe side turns out to b bad so thank god they are cautious. i am still worried about the other one. as nothing showed up on mammogram. i know i don’t have any lumps but you would have thought they would have done a scan in case well i questioned it again and now decided to do breast MRI on Tuesday so hopefully this will put my mind at rest. or should i t i am having this as another safety precaution but in past experience this will turn out bad. stay positive they say… only good thing is that they r finding it. good luck when you go i am thinking of you.

Hi Denie,

Sounds to me as though the multi disciplinary team meet on Monday mornings at your hosp. They will discuss your case and fortunately you will have their decision the same afternoon.

This is such a difficult time, between testing and results but hopefully it will be nothing to worry
If they do decide on treatment they’ve certainly had enough trouble trying to locate the area of concern which suggests they’ve caught it really early.

Try to have a good weekend, I know it’s difficult when you’re so worried,
Please let us know how you get on
Love

Mabel, you give good advice and you are right of course, all I know is that its floating thats why it was difficult to locate, which I think might be a good thing if it is sinister it may be easy to remove, I hope you are ok? I will let you know. x

Hi Denie

Just wanted to add that it is common for core biopsy results to take a week as they watch the cells under a microscope over a number of days to see how they behave.

I had my breast cancer confirmed by a fine needle aspiration and the core biopsy was just done to learn more about the cancer.

If your core biopsy was used as a diagnostic tool it could be that they are satisfied by looking at it that it isn’t cancer and there is therefore no need to continue to watch it. That would certainly make sense. If it was cancer I would imagine they would want to keep watching it for the week. I certainly hope I’m right.

Good luck on Monday.

Hi Lola,
Thankyou, I do feel better for talking to people who have gone through it, I’m glad I found this site.
I hope your right too but if not I do feel a bit more positive as Mabel said if it is antthing its probably very early stages due to difficulty locating it and they had to go in 6 times because the samples weren’t enough, it is not very big.
I hope you are ok and that they are looking after you.
Take Care

Hi Denie

I don’t think we can really offer you that quick fix that we all search for at the start! My only advice is to try and stay positive, you are lucky in that they seem to be doing all of your investigations quickly. It took 3 months from me seeing my GP until I finally had all of the investigations you have had done (my tumour was large enough for them to see and palpate), then finally I got my BC diagnosis.

I had to wait 10 days after both of my core biopsies before I was given the results, so I would definitely think you are just lucky in that the unit where you are being seen works promptly. I know my Onc told me that they dsicussed all patients going through the system at the weekly multi-dis meetings, those with BC and those just undergoing investigations. So all being well this is the same at your hospital?

Good luck this afternoon.

Lynn

Hi Lynn,
Thankyou.
You are right I think I have been lucky by reading through these threads, I realise my unit has got there act together. I have only had to wait days and I thought that was bad but my god 3 months thats awful it must have been mental torture!
I do hope your treatment is going well
Take Care
