Hello. I’m awaiting biopsy results for a probable recurrence, after 16 years, in my other breast. My first cancer was ER+ HER- , I had mastectomy, chemo, rads and Tamoxifen for 10 years. I do have family history but was tested in 2009 and am BRCA negative, and those family members have not had any recurrence.
I’m due to get my biopsy results in 3 weeks and am worried that my body obviously has the ability to produce cancerous cells. How can I find out if there are any independent occurrences in other parts of my body? E.g. I have stiff hips but put that down to other wear and tear factors.
Should I ask for any additional tests?
Thank-you.
Hi bellalasagne1,
Thank you for your post.
It sounds like a difficult time for you while you wait for biopsy results and it’s understandable that you’re worried about separate occurrences of cancer in other parts of your body.
You are welcome to call our helpline to talk this through. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to additional support and information if necessary.
Symptoms such as stiff hips can have many causes, including side effects from treatment, and may not be related to your cancer.
After treatment for breast cancer it’s important to report new and persistent symptoms to your treatment team, breast care nurse or GP. You can then have the necessary checks and tests.
It may also be helpful to speak to your breast care nurse or treatment team about how you are feeling as they can talk through your family history with you and how this impacts your risk.
