Critical Illness - a critical question???

i just wanted to say mine paid out on invasive grade 3 bc. Aviva were great they only had my paperwork less than 2 weeks…but the consultant had it sat on his desk about 2 months. Sometimes its the consultants who make things drag out, but as we all know they are very busy people. My life policy was automatically cancelled on payout. good luck to all still claiming

i got mine finally today!!! I kept hounding the halifax every week for the last month…not that i think this made things move any faster but at least it felt like i was doing something. Its now 6months since i made my claim and i’m down to half pay so at least i can worry about one less thing now!
Thanks for everyones help on here!

Good news Pix - as you say one less thing to worry about!

Fab news Pix! Mine now applied for ( had misread my policy all along - the 6 month bit applied to some disbilities - not invasive cancer) so looking forward to receiving a payout.

Love to all

Hi just thought I’d add that Aviva paid out quickly (grade 2 invasive bc) after consultant’s report received. Had read lots of stories about insurers making it very difficult. Aviva contacted me every 2 weeks to let me know about progress of claim. Pay out has meant we are mortgage free, which is one big thing to not worry about. Alice x

i was dx in july with dcis and invasive dc in my right breast,i had a lumpectomy, and sentinal node disection which came back clear, ive also had 3 weeks radio and am on tamoxifen for next 5 years.do you think i will be able to claim critical illness from the halifax too x

My nodes were clear but my critical health insurance paid out. For my insurer, the critical (!) thing was that it was ‘invasive’. Good luck - I hope your claim is successful…

Mine also paid out with invasive DC and clear nodes. The key is the invasive bit, my policy specifically excluded DCIS and, although I also had DCIS the fact that some of my tumour had become invasive was enough for them to pay out within 4 weeks. Incidentally, my policy also said that I had to have the condition for 6 months, but it paid out well before 6 months from diagnosis.

Watch out if your policy is a joint one with your partner. Mine was and the whole policy is void now so it means he isn’t covered either.

Luckily (if that’s the right word) I had separate life cover which is continuous so long as I continue to pay the premiums (which I will!). So if, God forbid, things don’t turn out well in the longer term my family will get another lump sum to cover the cost of childcare that I will no longer be able to provide.

cuddles mine was with the halifax and paid out critical illness on grade 1 stage 1 node neg invasive ductal BC… was found to have a small area of high grade DCIS in margins but it was the invasive bit that they paid out on… didnt have to wait 6 months or anything like that although it did take a few months to get the whole thing sorted out from initial claim to getting mort paid… maybe about 3-4 months.

you also usually cannot claim within the first 6 months of the policy

some joint CI plans also only cover the 1st person on the mort… mine was like that, but was buying out my ex and set up my own mort and policy 6 months before diagnosis… thank god or i would have been completely stuffed.

gennie you OH should still be able to take out life and critical illness cover in his own right… would be of benefit for him to ask around and get some quotes for as new plan.

I claimed on critcal illness with Scottish equitable ( invaaive was again the key word) and they paid out within about 6 weeks (just as i was starting chemo - you are right Dot about the wee silver lining). I had life insurance with another company (which i still have) but think would be unlikely to get any new cover now and have not tried.
