Hi - I just wondered if anyone had made a Claim on their Critical Illness and if they were successful. Although my prognoses looks good and I’m not loosing any income through it (at present anyway) I didn’t see the point but like people kept telling me - Cancer is on the list of things to claim for, and we pay it for a reason, and if something good comes out of this crap - then surely its worth trying to get something back.
Hi Mandy,
there are many threads on here about critical illness claims
This is one: breastcancercare.org.uk/bcc-forum/discussion/18986/
but if you click on the search button above and put the words critical illness in - and select comments a lot more will come up.

Hi Mandy
I made a successful claim on my critical illness policy. Of course, after the claim, I do not have life insurance with them now!!
I would go for it, its what you’ve been paying your premiums for

my darling hubby couldn’t ‘see the point, it’s so expensive’ of critical illness insurance…needless to say, he’s now realised it just MIGHT have been worth paying the premiums for!! Never mind…
Go for it! Thats what you bought it for! I got mine settled last week,a silver lining in a dark cloud. Now I only have less than half the mortgage I had ,so will probably pay the same and pay it off much sooner.
Mind you ,I’d rather have my boob back!

Hi Mandy
I had it and claimed and got the money very quickly. I couldn’t believe my luck when I realised I still had it (it was attached to an endowment which I had so regretted taking out). It came good in the end and really helped.
Best wishes and good luck

Excellent - like you said given a choice I would sooner a cure or prevention was found but until that happens…live and enjoy life… good to hear that some of you had successful claims. I sent my forms off a few days ago so fingers crossed!
Hi Mandy
Good luck with your claim. I got mine no bother, did up my kitchen with it and had a nice holiday in italy! I prob should have been more sensible and put it into my mortgage but hey i have a nice new cooker, not that its made me a better cook.

Much lols… Depending how much I get… a new kitchen and double glazing is on my list!! Along with a new wardrobe… something to make me feel nice …my partners words not mine, far be it from to to argue!!! !!! Oh and it will help to reschedule my trip to Oz which I was supposed to be on as we speak but had to cancel due to my diagnoses and surgery- If I get alot… then I will save for a deposit on a new house when the market improves as this is not the house we want long term.
I claimed on my critical illness policy and got the full payout. Took pressure off hubby who is self employed contractor, and he took time off when I needed him. Plus our mortgage is much smaller now I did blow some and booked a holiday to Florida next year, bought some dollars and also some premium bonds (which have won already) . It took about 8 weeks from start to finish and I never thought they would pay, but hey they did. If only one good thing can become of Cancer then that’s it.
Blimey - really didn’t think they would pay unless it was worst case scenario… I won’t get my hopes up just yet but we are assured for the total value of the house plus the extra loan we took out, we only took out the mortgage 18 months ago… If I get all that - I am going to send a large cheque to Breast Cancer Care aswell - its not like I planned to have it, … anything that can help move closer to a cure has to be worth it right?
I took out a life policy 25 years ago when I couldn’t afford it, and the only reason I did it was because the guy who knocked on the door had a lovely Irish accent and I’m an absolute sucker for accents. How shallow am I???!!
Anyway, the insurance co phoned me a month or so back and came to see us, obviously hoping for more business. I’ve filled in my part of the form and the doctor’s got it and hopefully completing it, so fingers crossed.
Good idea, Mandy, to donate some to Breast Cancer Care. We’ve all benefited from this site. And if I get a goodly sum, it will either pay for/go towards our cruise to Alaska next year for my 60th
As me and Grandad’s always said, every cloud …
Good luck to us all.

I too have successfully claimed - and why not…it is what you have paid the premiums for and it is nothing to do with loss of earnings or prognosis. One word of warning - my insurance company started asking what I thought were totally irrelevant questions and asked my doctor for copies of all my medical records…(I am over 50!!). At this point, I got my financial advisor involved. He sold us the policy and obviously it is in the insurance comapny’s nterest to keep him happy. He took up the fight and the claim was settle soon afterwards. My doctor thought they were trying to get out of it…
If you need to get someone fighting on your behalf, do so…
Good luck
Heather
All positive stuff so far!!! Thanks for the tips. Just so happens our financial advisor is also a friend, who just so happens to have sold us the same policy she has - so it must be good… we are planning to having a chat with her this week, she thinks we can get help with transport / fuel costs in the meantime to take me to Hospital for treatment / check ups etc…
YES you must claim! I did and now have no mortgage which means I can work part time and enjoy more freedom and time with my grandchildren.
My policy covered cancer full stop, no mention of primary or secondary or lumpectomy or mastectomy. They paid up with very little delay.
Use the money to maybe pay off all or part of your mortgage, and if the worse case scenario happens, you will have less pressure and more choice. You could even put your mortgage repayments into another property a buy to let maybe and get extra income for the fun things in life like exotic holidays!!
Go for it girl!

Just spoke to my Financial advisor and based on my latest revelation she said it sounds like a dead cert that we will get it… breast cancer nurse also said the same as mine is classed as invasive. Would rather struggle on as before or win the lottery - there has to be easier ways to pay off the mortgage… but like has been said, if something good …
