I got my critical illness pay out very promptly and got offered counselling check ups from them too
Now my lovely holiday fund! Just been to China, Vietnam and KL. planning my next adventure. Hope you get yours !!!
I was diagnosed on 5th December 2024, my mammogram was 25th November 2024. I claimed through L&G on the 5th December and was paid out 6th January. No issues at all. They were very empathetic and understanding. As it turned out my boss terminated my contract and not getting any benefits so the money will at least see me through my treatment until i can work again.
I don’t have critical illness cover but this post reminded me I have a Simply Health cash back health plan and I can claim for my surgery day in hospital ! Apparently it covers radiotherapy & chemo days too if I end up needing those. So £16.00 coming my way for my day in surgery better than nothing mind you
I have Simply Health - I didn’t have chemo but was able to claim £20 per treatment for radiotherapy . Might have gone up since 2022. Xx
I have also have simply health, I claimed for both my ops as a day patient and the radiotherapy days March 24, any little helps I think.
Xx
Hi my diagnosis was 10 years ago almost exactly the same as yours. My husband and I also had critical illness cover with l and g I found the whole process stress free and they paid out within a few weeks
I wished my provider of critical illness was that good I’m with scottish provident & to say useless is an understatement. Never updated always having to ring them. Still awaiting finalisation
Sorry to hear this @sloth1. How long have you been waiting?
Since my diagnosis & operation January/February @floss2 we are still waiting for them to pay the invoice so the actual paperwork can be sent. You pay this money in regularly but as soon as you make a claim it becomes a long process
Oh no! Fingers crossed they are about to pay you. I’ve just uploaded some sort of identity thing, but looking at the portal they haven’t even tried to contact gp or hospital yet so I guess I’m going to be waiting ages still. I bet you’re on tenterhooks like me, hoping they can’t get out of paying?
@floss2 Yes it’s ridiculous. Its not like we have asked to be diagnosed with breast cancer. I dont understand why they have to contact the gp & the hospital. Surely the hospital is enough. Anyways fingers crossed for us both.
L&G stands for Legal & General which is an insurance company in GB with a long history.

For anyone not happy with how their claim is being dealt witn, contact the insurance company and say you want to make an official complaint. They should give you a reference number and tell how long the process takes. I used to work for an insurance company and any official complaint went straight to the top of our list to resolve. If they have not resolved your issue in the timescale they gave you, you can then go to the Insurance Obudman. The insurance companies don’t want too many complaints to go to the Ombudsman because if there are too many they can be fined. That usually results in negative publicity and damage to the brand.
@krtea they told me 6-12 weeks, but it can take longer, so they’ve not committed themselves to any sort of timeline other than more than six weeks! I’ve not long put in the claim though, so not expecting anything anytime soon. Just nervous they will find a reason not to pay.
Looking through this thread a lot of us have had L+ G and we have all been paid - I also worried that they wouldn’t pay me but they did . They will pay you too xx
i was reviewer for medical insurance in US and was always told to deny claims, but i didn’t. most of the other reviewers did not have a lot of background. they made their decisions on what they thought was correct.
I had no bother getting mine from the actual insurers (aviva), but it took the doctor ages to fill in her parts. I took me 3 months to get the money because the hospotal was slow.
