Hi - Prior to my meeting with my ONC on Monday I am researching these two radiotherapy procedures that may be helpful for me (TNBC, Lung Mets, 18 weekly Taxol / Avastin just finished, waiting for CT / MRI results)
I have looked on the Accuray web site and Lemongrove has been v helpful (thank you), but I am not able to find the full criteria needed for each therapy:
Cyberknife - Tumours less than 3.5cm and have to be fewer than a certain number (??3 but im not sure)
Tomotherapy - No idea!!!
If anyone can help to fill in the blanks I would be VERY grateful!
Hi Sadie, I made enquires to Harley Street about Cyberknife, they said they can’t treat more than 3 mets, at a cost of £22,000.00 per met !
Thats obviously for private treatment.
I had multiple mets at the time so dismissed it , but my chemo reduced mine to one met so I am going to try my best to get the Onc team to refer me for treatment, so I would be interested in what you can discover about this and the Tomotherapy.

Hi - That is really interesting. I hope my lung mets have reduced in number too so that this is an option!! Great to hear yours have. It is expensive but sounds really good treatment!

My understanding from info from the Harley Clinic is that it’s 3 liver mets max but does depend on location too - sorry don’t know about lung mets. Tomotherapy seems to be similar but the latest Trilogy goes up to 5cm (I think it’s only available privately at the London Clinic in Uk but is available in the EU. Not sure of costs).
It’s good that you are doing your own research as I’ve had some misinformation from my Oncs about the value of Cyberknife - it’s not widely available in the UK but is in the USA but info seems slow to spread. Lemongrove did suggest, helpfully, that I might contact the research dept of Accuray for more detailed info so you might want to follow that link - it did take them a few days to reply.
