Now to start a new thread for all of us starting rads in June to share in. Xx

Mine start on Tuesday and are ending on June 9th so I can hop between them both Lol! Got a nice bottle of Moët sat waiting for the last day which also happens to be my sons 26th Birthday ??

Moet that is perfect to celebrate. I’ll be in the thick of it by then. But it seems rads is a breeze after what we have all been through… Xxx i for one will toast you darling on June 9th xx

Hello
I’m starting my rads Thursday and finishing on 10th June its been 6 weeks since the end of Chemo so had a nice break but now just want to get started !! I’ve started the aqueous cream already to prepare
Roll on Thursday !! Xx

Hello Nat,

Were u advised to start using the cream before? I start 1st June for rads and was told by my onc at the Royal Marsden, aloe vera gel is the best. Its buy one get one for a penny at Holland and Barrett at mo!!

I start mine tomorrow, should I have been using the cream before? I never thought to ask! I have bought some aqueous cream, I don’t ask enough questions, I’ve found it all bad enough and never want to know anymore so I’m clueless really lol!! Jo x

Hi ladies

No I wasn’t advised to start cream before rads just swapped normal body lotion for aqueous yesterday just curious to see what it was like I’m thinking I might go to Holland and Barrett and get aloe vera though thanks for that dizzydee !!
Good luck tomorrow Jo hope all goes well
You will be a couple of days ahead of me so u can fill me in on what happens !!!

I’ve been “lucky” so far had some minor issues with surgery got through Chemo OK thank goodness so fingers crossed rads will be the same my only worries are my appointments are at all different times of the day and my hospital is 1 hr drive away I’m a single mum to a four year old little horror so will have childcare issues bless her she will be here there and everywhere !!! I’m sure she will be spoilt I’ve got a rads Saturday morning because of bank holiday so I’ve promised her a visit to the Disney store after I may treat myself as well !!! (Not in the Disney store !!)
Hope all goes well for everyone this week

Had first rads today and absolutely fine, nothing like I was expecting and you don’t feel a thing, They got me lined up pretty quick so was in and out in less than half an hour, feeling quite chuffed with myself really and relaxing with a glass of wine now , only 14 more to go… Rads that is not glasses of wine lol! Xx

Hi ladies,
Glad ur first session went well Kim  Enjoy ur well desreved wine. Nat thats a pain all different times especially with a little one. But i bet ur little one is a lucky lady to have a mum like you.
Mine start 1st June 16 sessions and then 5 booster ones on tumour site. Is anyone continuing to work whilst undergoing rad treatment? Think it will be quite hard hosp advised getting signed off. Keep going girls xxx

Thanks Kim,
Likewise have received same advice effects if they do come kick in day 10 or so and can continue 10 days after end. We’ll get there! Xx Fatigue is the one i’m a bit concerened by as live alone xxx

Glad things going well for you Kim. Fish and chips sounds good. We all deserve a dinner fit for a queen once we finish rads xx

Hi all

I’ll be starting next Thursday, 28th.  Gone back to work now, 1/2 days mind!  Going to see how I go with rads but hope to touch base with work on a daily basis.

Not started any skin care prep yet and have not been advised too! At my planning meeting at Barts London I was told that guidelines have changed (last month apparently) and we can now use any deodrant and creams apart from sudocream and vaseline!  Has anyone else heard this? What skin preps have you been recommended?

If anyone came away with nerve damaged post op can they share with me their recovery time?  I’m 8 weeks post op and though 90% better still giving me trouble.  This seems to affect my boob (I presume its that) making it quite achy, is this normal?

Thanks for listeneing and I llook forward to sharing my experiences with you…hopefully all positive!

Hi all

Had my first rads today got there really early as there wasnt any traffic and I was in and out in 30 mins !! Very impressed no problems they got me in the right position straight away and then zapped away !! So very straightforward only issue was handed a “new” appointment time sheet !!! All different from the last so need to sort out childcare AGAIN !!
As for creams shell I brought a big tub of aqueous cream and then told today I could use any cream even the normal perfumed one I have so I will go back to that as the aqueous wasn’t very nice
I had a mastectomy and auxiliary clearance so different to you and have nerve pain and funny feelings in arm and chest every so often which is apparently normal can last for years !!! Its better than it was I’ve been back to swimming a couple of times a week and its really helped with strength as well
Anyway back to rads 4pm tomorrow only 14 to go !!!

Hi dizzy dee
I too start on 1st June, 15 sessions and 8 boosts. The boosts were a bit of a bombshell on Monday when I went for my pre-treatment briefing. I have worked two out of three weeks during my chemo and hope to work during my rads. I am frustrated with the lack of a timetable but perhaps that is better than some, who seem to be getting messed about with times.
Hope everyone is enjoying their little tipple this evening!

Hi Lynny,

I’m having 5 boosters too. Its just to make sure etc… So nice to have someone starting same time as me on the same day! I’m going to continue to work but see how it goes. Cheers Lynnny x Darling rads of June have a super bank holiday weekend. Xxx

Hi will start my radiotherapy on 1st june at castlehill hospital Hull.Had a lt mastectomy and removal of 15 lymph nodes at the end of nov 2014 followed by 3 fec and 3 T chemos as I had triple negative BC.I`ve read that some places are getting you to hold your breath while having treatment to try to prevent damage to the heart. They never mentioned it when I had my pre assessment does anyone know if they do it at Castlehill ?.Thanks Sandra

I’m having left side rads and will be holding my breath, start Thursday. Leaflet I was given was named ‘Deep Inspiration Breath Hold Technique for Radiotherapy’.  During rad planning my breathing was measured and I had to hold my breath when told, approx 15 secs. All sci tech stuff.  Will keep you posted how it goes.
