Darlington Race for Life

Darlington Race for Life Hi Geraldine,

I’m sorry but I’ve had to amend your post removing the email address as we don’t show these on line.

Trust you understand.

Kind regards

I finished my rads on 27th February this year and I’ve sigend up for the Tesco Race for Life on 10th June 2007, in Darlington. I don’t like running so I’m going to run it. My partner and I are into hill walking and long distance walking so I felt that walking 5k was a bit too easy for me. I view this race as a bit of a turning point as I think I’ll be back where I want to be after I’ve done it. I’m also doing it in memory of those family members who were n’t as fortunate as me. If anyone would like to spnosor me, all contributions will be very gratefully accepted.

It was n’t my E-mail address- it was the website address for my on-line sponsorship form. There are 2 other postings on this forum with website addresses for online sponsorship forms. These have not been amended or revised but mine has been. I’ve also seen a number of postings where users have listed the website addresses for companies who are selling things. none of these have been removed or amended. Why has mine been treated differently? As with the other users, I’m a cancer sufferer who is trying to raise money for a cancer charity. I listed this posting after seeing that other users had publicised their charity event in this forum. Why can’t I give the details of my online form as they have done?

Geraldine

I notice now that the other postings have been amended. However, there are still a number of postings in the forums where users have given the details of retail sites. Whilst I recognise that people are trying to help fellow BC patients by giving them info about items that may be useful to them, these are still sites that are selling things for a profit. Myself and the other people trying to publicise our on line sponsorship forms are not doing anything for personal gain. I don’t see or touch any of the money that goes via my online form, as it goes direct to the charity. I think this is a pretty sad state of affiars.

I’ve posted a reply to this in the forum.

Hi Geraldine,
Just to let you know that I am going to do the Darlington Race for life too.
However I will be walking it.
My last chemo is 28 march, rads to start about 3 weeks later, so I reckon I will just have finished rads.
Where do they do it , just round South Park?

Hi Kay Hi Kay, I think it is just round South Park. This is the first time I’ve done it- might be my last cos I hate running!! I finished my rads on 27th Feb and I’m healing quite nicely now. Where are you going for yours- James Cooke? If you are, you’ll be fine. The staff there are lovely and the volunteers in the rads unit do a lovely cup of tea! I had a couple of long waits when the machine broke down but the rest of the time I was in and out really quickly.

Geraldine

Hi Geraldine,
Yes I’m going to James Cooke for rads.I don’t drive so I’m going to have to rely on the volunteer drivers, so I expect I’ll have to leave home early & get back late.
Never mind It will soon be over. Pleased to hear staff are nice, a bit apprehensive . Same as chemo, its the fear of the unknown but once youv’e done it its doable.
The girls round my local Tesco did the race last year, when I see them I’ll ask them about it.
Good on you for running it. I absolutely hate running too but at the moment walking is all I can manage, well thats my excuse anyway.
Dont know if you have been on the other site but you can post for sponsers there

race for life hi im doing the race for life on weston super mare beach in may and am going to try and get the people from work to sponsor me.it will be significant for me as the day after last years i recieved my diognosis of breast cancer.so good luck to anyone else who is trying to raise money for a good cause. by the way what forum do you mean? love lynn xx

Volunteer drivers Thanks for the info about the other site, Kay. Don’t know if you know but you can get volunteer drivers through St Theresa’s Hospice in Darlington. They do a 1-1 service so the driver only drives you and picks a time to suit you. It saves any long waits or long days and they are lovely people. they must cover your area as one of my drivers was picking up a guy from Bishop Auckland after my appointments. The lady at the hospice who sorts out the drivers is called Lynne.

Anything you want to know about the rads dept at James Cooke, just drop me a line.

Just a thought, are we all mad doing a race after everything we’ve had to deal with??? Probably!!!
