Dcis diagnosed

Great stuff Rhodes is beautiful. Was your dcis a large area that you needed a mastectomy. Think im having lumpectomy and maybee radiotherapy and maybee gormone blockers but wont know any more until after the op. Thanks so much for replying reading eveyones experiences and the info has kept me going .

They said 4cm but as I have small boobs they couldnt get clear margins with lumpectomy. After results from surgery it turned out to be over 9cm. I had lymph nodes removed and all ok no radiotherapy or chemo.

I’m out for a run in Rhodes at this moment looking at the sea - so lovely x

Welcome!

I was diagnosed with DCIS last Oct and had single mastectomy and reconstruction end of Dec. I too felt and still do feel imposter syndrome about having “cancer” as it could have been so much worse. I feel so grateful.

I am more or less starting to get back to normal life now and finding my feet on hormone therapy. If you have any questions, please ask. This website and forum has been amazing in my journey x

Hi - have been on a similar journey to you over the past 6 months. I had DCIS diagnosed in Jan, mastectomy in March. It would be amazing if you didn’t feel overwhelmed. For me the cancer diagnosis came out of nowhere and then everything following happened so fast. It was unlike anything I had dealt with before. Make the most of your breast team, they are so good at their jobs. I kept getting as much information as I could throughout, I also spoke to people who had had surgery - Someone Like Me was great. That helped alot. 3 months post surgery now and feeling good. Wishing you the best for it all and take care of yourself, its time to focus on you x

Morning ladies . I feel so much better reading your posts . Im having a lumpectomy in a few weeks getting a micro clip inserted friday . I know exactly what you mean about it all being a whirlwind mine was just through a routine mammogram. Can i ask was your dcis over a large area thats why you needed a mastectomy. I still dont kno the grade of mine or its hormone status till after the op . Sending lots of hugs and good wishes . X

Hello everyone. After more advise (sorry) i had my savvy clip inserted yesterday an ive got lots little dotty bruises on opposide side of breast to where they inserted the clip. There was alot of repositioning me in the mammogram to get right position so im thinking its just the pressure from that. It is much more sore than when i had the biopsys inside mammogram machine . Thanks in advance .

Hi

Couldn’t agree more. My DCIS diagnosis came out of the blue in March 2021 and I was shell shocked to be told I needed a mastectomy. Fortunately I was able to have Diep reconstruction at the same time (this wasn’t possible throughout most of the pandemic, as they were getting people out of hospital as fast as possible). And now, 4 years, and 4 clear mammograms later, I’m able to look back at that time and think not only how lucky I was (my mammogram was only delayed a few months because of Covid, so it was caught early), but also how true it is that ‘this too will pass’. When you’re in the eye of the storm and your life has been taken over by appointments, tests and sheer bloody panic, you think your life will never go back to being ‘ordinary’, and routine again. But it does, it really does. And whilst I don’t claim to have had any epiphanies, I do welcome - and celebrate - every milestone in life (and get so cross when people bemoan getting older!). If you’re in the middle of this now, hold on tight - this too will pass - and lean on the amazing support that this site provides (I have no idea how many times coming on here at 3am, rather than doom scrolling, probably saved my sanity).

Much love
