Thanks for posting. It’s understandable you have questions about your treatment plan following your lumpectomy for DCIS, and are now awaiting further surgery.
The best people to talk to about any further treatment or tests are your treatment team, including your breast care nurse. Decisions about treatment are made by a MDT (multidisciplinary team), and the reason for these should be communicated to you. Treatment plans can change as more information becomes available. Do ask them about why they haven’t recommended testing for hormone receptors.
You may find it helpful to know that lymph node (gland) removal is not usually recommended for people with DCIS having a lumpectomy, unless they are at high risk of invasive breast cancer.
Radiotherapy may be recommended after your second surgery, and the decision about whether this is required will be discussed with you once your post operative results are available. You can read about what is involved when having radiotherapy in the link.
