DCIS

After my first ever mamagram I found out that I had dcis been through all the test and I am going to have a WLE on the 23 September going on my booked holiday first I am worried because the only people I know who have had just a lump removed or surgery to remove a tumour have died because once the cut has been made it seems to make the cancer cells move faster I am not sure if I want to go through with the surgery and just leave the DCIS alone as it might never become invasive my head is trying to ge to grips with all the things people are telling me and I really dont know what to do.

misschippy - Strangely, I had a WLE/SNB on 23rd September last year - the same date as yours is scheduled, although mine was invasive lobular bc. There are so many people on here who had the same op, many of them years ago, who have not died. I think the experience of those you know is extremely unfortunate. I had radiotherapy after surgery and am on five years hormone therapy. How long ago were these people treated? Things have moved on a lot and if the bc has not spread anywhere before surgery, your prognosis would be very good.

I understand your fears. I felt the same about having the core biopsy but it was necessary and I was reassured by the follow-up treatments that I have had. Have you spoken to the medics about your fears? You could ring the helpline here.

Obviously, the decision is yours, so good luck with it.

I am sorry that your diagnosis is not what you wanted but well done on going for the scan. I also had WLE and because of no clear margins and I also had invasive cancer at the same place I had mastectomy. I am here to tell the tale and just on 5 year hormone treatment.

I think there are different levels of treatment and if you have some kind of bad experience your mind will trigger to that and not the amount of woman who are alive today because they did take the next step. my DCIS had already turned although i was a low grade. Each one of us is different and there are all kinds of treatments and decisions to make. You dont say at what grade or stage you are and that will have a bearing on it all.
