I was diagnosed with DCIS yesterday. I had previously been told by the radiologist that everything looked OK! In total shock…they now want to do further biopsies to look at old areas of calcification that weren’t an issue before. Don’t know what to think…
Hi, I was also diagnosed yesterday. I was also told 2 weeks ago that I had harmless changes, so I too was in total shock. Good luck…Jan
Not yet. Sorry what is WLE? Will know more next week. Keep positive if you can Jenny
Hi. I was also diagnosed with DCIS, high grade. I just received these results today (my dr was kind enough to email me the results today because I got the dreaded call from the nurse yesterday who only said “the results came back abnormal”). I’m 46 and have had clear mammograms since I was 40. I know how scared you must have felt …it has been an awful week just thinking of the what ifs. How are you doing now, and have you decided on a treatment? God bless you.
Hi everyone, I have just joined, I was diagnosed with DCIS three years ago , high grade , I had four lumpectomies and radiotherapy , then some reconstruction ,
DCIS can be low, intermediate and high grade , if I can be of any help to anyone I’m here x
Hi jas58, I had a WLE last Monday to remove 2 pieces of DCIS large and small, I get my results and treatment plan on Wednesday. I’m still really struggling with tiredness and a fuzzy head. I’ve tried going more and going out for a walk and it just makes it worse for me .
Hi, sorry I didnt get back on here. Had my results and it hasnt spread , so I go for pre op tomorrow and I have my mastectomy on Tuesday 30th August. Still terrified, even though I know I`ll be fine.
Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with intermediate stage DCIS on Thursday. I’ve never posted on a forum before so here goes. I’m really shocked by my diagnosis I was led to believe that it was just harmless calcifications. I’m still quite confussed by the whole thing and something that really confusses me is DCIS being described as pre-cancerous. The leaflet I was given by the BCN states that “occasionally you may hear it incorrectly described as pre-cancerous” so is it or isn’t it. I must say that since I had the biopsy 2 weeks ago this site has been invaluable.
Hi Schumi dcis was also described as pre cancerous to me by my consultant but my BCN soon put it in to context as Breast Cancer. She explained that it is cancerous but does not have the ability to move out of the ducts and that is why it’s called in situ. I had high grade dcis and have had 1 WLE upto now. They found no invasive cancer but still need a bit more clear margin on one side so having a 2nd op next week then radium for 3 weeks to reduce risk of recurrence. I think when you see ‘breast cancer’ on your doctors note and get your card for free prescriptions for 5 years it makes it clear in your mind that DCIS is breast cancer but very treatable. Hope you are OK with this. Do you have an idea of what’s next for you?
Thanks Ali49, the next stage for me is another biopsy on the 21 October and a WLE either on one part or two parts of my breast - depending on results of the next biopsy. The WLE should be in the next 3 - 4 weeks. Thanks for answering my question and I didn’t tknow that I would get free prescriptions for 5 years.
Schumi you have to fill a form in at your go’s and they fill their bit in and sent it off. Your card then comes to you. I also get free parking at the hospital whenever I go to the breast clinic too (Aintree- liverpool). I know these things don’t seem important but the hospital told me to use them! Schumi make a list of all the questions you would like the answers to and ask your BCN before you go or when you go. It is a huge shock at first. This forum really does help you to realise that lots of us are going through the same thing and helps us to feel supported and less alone x
Hi everyone, I went for my post op assessment today. Having a WLE on 3 November or so I thought. Met the surgeon which I wasn’t expecting and he was talking about a mastectomy and giving me a choice of 3 types of reconstruction. I had another biopsy on Friday and they don’t have the results yet so I don’t understand how he can be thinking along the lines of a mastectomy. I have a small area of DCIS in one part of my left breast and the other biopsy was to check out another suspicious area. I was lead to believe by the first consultant I saw that even if this second biopsy came back positive then she would still do a WLE because I am a GG cup and so there is a lot to work with. If I need a mastectomy I don’t have a problem with that but I am just shocked that without the second lot of results a different surgeon is already thinking of a mastectomy.
Hi Schumi, I can understand why you are confused as things don’t seem to have been made clear to you. Are they not going to wait for your 2nd biopsy results to decide on a course of action. If I were you I would write all the questions that you need answers to and call your BCN tomorrow. I would also ask about getting results before further decisions are made. Also ask for an appointment with your consultant to clarify things. Stay calm and get them to explain everything calmly to you xx
Hi Schumi, I hope you got answers to your questions today and a clearer idea of your plan of what’s next. For me it’s the nervousness of approaching my 2nd surgery on Thursday and praying that they get the clear margin needed. I hate this feeling of not being in control! Still, let’s stay positive hey xx
Hi everyone. Im new to forum but it sounds like I’m in a similar position. After routine mammogram …biopsy …Dcis intermediate 4cm found. Results of biopsy 30.9.16 and had wle therapeutic mammaplasty with reduction (is that just a wle?) On 18.10.16. Last Tuesday. All going well dare I say. Results of pathology next Wednesday, so suppose time will tell, margins etc.
It’s be reassuring to read back over this ‘conversation’ all the same thoughts and feelings. I wish you all well and look forward to sharing the journey… it’s good not to be alone.
Thank you Schumi. All done and praying that that is the last surgery I will need. So grateful for all of our wonderful nhs staff xxx
Got good results yesterday, Dcis all gone and clear margins achieved. Having 3 weeks of radium to reduce risk of recurrence. So relieved and grateful. Polly p have you had your results yet?
