Hi all,
I’m really hoping one of you lovely ladies will put my mind at rest. Basically had wle, chemo, rads and now in 2 2nd packet of tamoxifen. Have had a few hot flushes, dry skin and mouth, weeing all night long.
Basically 2 days ago my scar started to hurt ( upper right quadrant) and today my whole arm feels like it’s dead - not really bothersome or really that painful - just aware that it doesn’t feel right. I’m waiting for the bcn to call back, but just wondered if anyone else has had the same. I’m taking the wockhardt brand of tamoxifen and it does say that breast pain is commo when you start taking it, but it also says if you get pain in your arms to stop taking it and call the doctor. It’s more of an ache really.
Any advice greatly welcomed ladies.
Thanks
Al

Al,
Just bumping this up to the top for you.

I have been taking tamoxifen for two weeks, my side effects are nightsweats, dry mouth, loss of appetite, hot flashes, and a few times have woken up with a dead arm and a feeling of pins and needles, this is all in the lower left arm and hand, it hasn’t happened a lot but obviously will be keeping an eye on it, I am still doing the radiotherapy route, but will mentioned to the oncologist when I see him next,
Al i think the pains in your arms its referring to is for signs of a DVT as you have a slightly higher risk of clots on tamoxifen… that would normally manifest as sudden onset of pain with swelling and redness.
i know when you have rads and after surgery you can get a bit of deadness in you arm from resting it in an awkward position.
i do get some numbness and pins and needless but usually cos i fall asleep with my arm above my head so i guess its positional too… maybe you could keep a wee diary of what position your arms are in when you notice it.

PS angels try asking your GP for Biotene oral balance mouth gel which really helps with the dryness and tastes great too.
Hello Ladies
Al - how did you get on with bcn? I have been having probs with dead arm and pins and needles especially on waking in the morning but as I have only taken 2 tamoxifen so far can hardly blame it on the pills!! I have put it down to post chemo ‘left overs’ and also I have noticed if I try to carry anything too heavy during the day. I get the pain in the boob etc as you describe too and I have been unable to wear a bra since WLE because boob aches terribly if i wear one. I’m on the APS brand of Tamoxifen and there is no mention of reporting arm pain on the info leaflet.
I am due to start Radiotherapy next Tuesday 13th and have been wondering if the Rads in combination with teh Tamoxifen are likely to induce more side effects on the arm and boob. I had problems with cording after 2nd WLE surgery and chemo has mucked my veins up considerably so I am not very optimistic that things are going to improve - however rather all this than bc!
Keep us informed - Leigh x
Hi all, thanks for your responses. Bcn wasn’t overly worried and thinks the pains could be from rads even though they finished over a month ago. She’s going to have a look tomorrow for me.
Lulu - i sleep with my arms above my head normally, but will keep a note. Arm isn’t swollen or red - so not worried about dvt.
Very tired now. Night all
