December 2015 chemo

Tina I really hope that’s true!

I really hope the next T isn’t as bad. Day 13 and I’m still struggling with SE’S.
How exciting Vicky about having a wedding to plan! That will definitely give you some fighting spirit with regards to all of this.

Good luck for tomorrow ladies.
Tina I think the steroids are the cause for the flushing and headaches.

Good luck today!! Hope it all goes well - so close to the finishing post now
Lots of love Kim xxx

Thanks guys. Feeling very emotional today, suppose steroids not helping!? Very flushed face and heart palpitating! Praying no delays!
I’ve done this in my own before but harder today saying bye to my daughter at 11:40 and hubby at 11! Then I’m in at 1 ?

Have any of you December ladies used the cold cap. Wanting some advice about how you know if the cap is fitting right. I’ve read that some ladies end of bald patches on top because the cap didn’t fit properly. Any advice appreciated. I go for me fitting on 21st March. Thanks Helen x

Thanks for your reply Tina. Sounds very vain to be worried about hair loss but I want to try and keep control of something. I’m prepared for it coming out but I am going to try everything I can to minimise it. Good luck with your final session. Helen x

Hi Gillian and Everyone, first T was on Tuesday and I was pretty good until today, a bit tired but I put that down to not sleeping well with the steroids; I have been waking around 4am for a few hours each night since then.

Today the aches and pains have showed up; it’s not unbearable but is pretty uncomfortable! I have been taking naproxen (which I have to take for arthritis is my wrist, as and when I need to) but I don’t think that is helping that much so I’m also taking co-codamol. I don’t like taking too much of that but it’s the only thing that works!

I haven’t felt sick and down below was all working normally until I started on the co-codamol, that stops things pretty quickly, but better than diarrhoea I guess! ? I have felt quite fuzzy headed and weak, but how much of that is due to the T and how much is lack of sleep and pain killers, it’s hard to tell!

No you aren’t the only one Claire! I keep mine in a bag too! We have to kerp track some how.

Not been on for a bit as have been pretty emotional and trying not to think about it all. Went in entirely on my own on Friday. Cried in there, wanted yo rip everything off and walk out. Somehow managed to stick with it. God only knows how!

Not sleeping well due to stetoids I guess but otherwise not too bad yet. Had a lovely day out in Brighton yesterday with the family.
Fell over mind so grazed uo and bruised knee! Littlest fell over while holding my hand and we both went down. Got to love bruising easier on this stuff. Turned my knee a lovely colour!

Helen I have used the cold csp too. Different system to Tina. Mine are put on from the freezer. Been doing the same as Tina. Also haven’t bothered with silk pillow. Kept about the same amount, 40-50%. My nurses seemed quite surprised at first. Just make sure that the cap fits well and is in contact with your head all over. I had a dodgy fitting on cycle 3 with a couple of hats. Dodgy nurse too. It didn’t fit well over my crown area and have a slight bald patch which have had to comb over.

Thank you ladies for all the support

Hey Tina! My nails have been brittle since last cycle of fec, and with thr first cycle if T my toenails are hanging by a thread they are even oozing a bit ? . I’ve also lost a load of hair, though I didn’t do cold cap, so that would be the main reason. Will be getting it trimmed asap, though bit worried about going to the hair dressers.
My next cycle is this Friday, dreading it and gutted I miss out on St Patricks day because of it

No its only my second one this Friday. You should have some of your friends round, it does wonders in boosting your spirits even when you don’t think it would xx

Hi all, from the January thread, had my first T yesterday, how long does it take for the SE’s to kick in? Took my last steroids today and I imagine they’ve been masking things so far! Xx

Hi all.
Claire and Sissy the side effects usually kick in 2 or 3 days later for most it seems. I have been fine the day of chemo and the day after. I went to Brighton for the day the day after his last one for a family day out so I think Claire you will be fine for the child protection meeting the day after. Just make sure you still keep drinking loads that day. Really do find it helps.
I usually feel my worst days 4-7 with a build up day 3 and a gradual reduction in symptoms day 8-10ish. Aches, very heavy legs and fatigue usually hit first along with not being able to taste anything. Bit like you have sucked on one of those throat sweets that has a numbing effect that ways gets your tongue.
Then I get stomach cramps and diarrhoea.
Hope that helps you out.
I am day 6 now so feeling dodge, but think the dose reduction has helped a bit. Less stomach cramps so far. Just hope I am not talking too soon as can’t remember which day they hit.
Also flushing Tina more than a toilet. Although yesterday was a little better. Hoping they are getting less now. They are always worse with the steroids but I never get rid entirely as on Zoladex too.

Gillian lovely to hear you are finished the t! Can’t wait for mine to be over too. Bet you are feeling happy the dreaded side effects nearly done with. Xx

Hi, dropping in from Jan thread too!
Good to hear you’ve had your last one Gillian, hope the side effects are good to you.
I start the docetaxol next week too (Tuesday) so this is really helpful to read. Got an appointment with my oncologist tomorrow so I must write down a list of questions! I have a cold / cough which I’m really hoping doesn’t progress into anything nasty. Drinking hot water with lemon juice and honey in the hope that it zaps anything!
Loads of love to you December ladies - nearly at the end everyone! ? Xxx

I had my first T last Tuesday so I am on day 9. I was fine day 1, 2, 3 & most of day 4… aches and pains started on day 4 evening. They were quite severe but I had co-codamol to take which kept a lid on it. I have had no diarrhoea but some constipation, again, not too bad; drink plenty and I eat shed loads of fruit, too! Rather shockingly for me, I was sick on the morning of day 5! Just once and it may well been due to the pain killers on an empty stomach. Gurgly, gassy ‘am I going to burp or be sick’ type feelings from time to time, but not nausea as such.

Fatigue has definitely been a problem, and fretful sleep. My mouth and throat are very dry but not really sore. Taste is a bit muted but ok. Hand and feet tingle and sometimes hurt a bit, especially heels but it’s more annoying than anything else, I can walk ok!

I’m on day 9 and still am quite tired, aches and pains pretty much went by day 6/7 but tingling hands and feet are still affecting me a little. I feel a bit like I have a nasty virus (without the temperature of course!)

Seeing the onc today, don’t feel much like going out, it was a mega effort to go and get the picc line flushed yesterday! Wanted to see a small concert at mu daughters uni tonight, but I don’t think I’m going to feel up to it, even if the onc will let me go! Roll on May!

Hope all this doesn’t freak you out too much, it’s the same as usual really, unpleasant but doable and it’s not like we have a real choice. We will feel so glad we pushed through this once it’s done!

Hi Amanda, day 10 seems to be the turning point (for the better) for a lot of people - it certainly was for me on all my Ts. Hope it is for you too.

Claire, I’d agree with others who have said that you will probably feel okay on day 2 so hope you can get to your event.

Ruth xx

Ladies! I have just had a bath and spotted some very tiny new hairs poking through in the lady garden and under arms. Sorry if it’s too much to share but I am excited about it as hopefully my head hair isn’t far behind it if that’s the case, although it’s still shedding a little.
Has anyone elses had hair start to come back yet?
I had to quadruple check as thought I was imagining it at first!

Xxx

I do have plenty of other problems going on at the sec with sore cuticles and very dry skin too but the hair! It gives me hope that it will start coming back quickly after all this.
Feeling rough today but better emotionally now.

Lol thought you would like that Tina! I didn’t loose any leg hair, no perks there.
Under arms were shaved before Christmas and only just coming back. Didn’t loose all of lady garden either. Very bizarrely it decided to stay around the edges!?!? So strange.
I know we are crazy! Regrowth!! Yay!!! xxx
