December 2017 Chemo Starters

Yes do mention it sweetie, it brought back memories of my own brush with a jobsworth, who never looked at me an left me  scared my rads were going to burn something vital(which in fact they did) but honestly she has no bedside manner and maybe isn’t suited to the job?

Mention it, I totally agree with everyone else.xx

lots of love

Unicorngirlmummy, so sorry you were treated like that today, it’s not acceptable, maybe write a letter and say you don’t know if the person has some family issues going on which resulted in the cold unsympathetic treatment you encountered, but you wanted to highlight it so that no other patients endure such an encounter? What a shame and hope you are ok darling ??:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

Kirsty, the nurse told me I’ll have to take 24 steroids over the 1st 3 days of docetaxol. Did you have to? Did anyone tell you why so many!
I’m v apprehensive…

Hope camilla, that’s correct for steroids in the t. You start day before treatment and have 4 in morning then 4 either lunchtime or dinner time (it differs from trust to trust), then again day of treatment, then again day after treatment. Keep ???you are doing amazing darling ???:sparkles::sparkles:shi xx

I was on microgynon for years with no periods and had to stop the minute I was diagnosed in September 2014. I had one short period straight away and another a month later, started chemo 31 October 2014 and since then I have had tiny bit of spotting a couple of times a year. Bloods show that I am still pre menopausal. It’s a joy not to have periods!

Morning ladies, yes the steroid dose is doubled for the tax.

So after somehow pretty much sailing through 3 rounds of fec with nothing much more than my acne type spots for a week or so acter each round, I have ended up in hospital noe on this bloody tax/herceptin/perjeta :frowning: I only called the line as i have had my usual outbreak of spots like ither rounds but this time there is about triple the amount, a lot more puss and starting to hurt!! So I thought best get checked incase they are infected or anythinf, temp was fine when i called. But by time i got here last night and they took my temp ut was up at 38 and my neutrophils on their way down at 1.1… so had ti stay in and on iv antibiotics. Although they said the acbe doesnt look infected and havent really gave me anything for it, but k have a cough so maybe some sort of viral infection was brewing?! … so first sick day from wirk since this all began lol xx

Kirsty. Horrendous! Hope it’s all resolved soon. Thinking of you

Thanks ladies, doc been to see me and having to stay in as neutrophils down at 0.66 now and because I have slight temp they think is a slight vital infection there so not safe to let me home due to the low white bloods.

I feel ok tho, just a wee bit of a cough. The acne outbreak isnt part of the infection but they are giving me antibiotic creams and gels and will hopefully helo clear, they said tax supresses the immune system even more than fec and also herceptin and perjeta are known for causong acne rashes so think its just a combo of it all xx

Best to be looked after than struggle at home. In the right place to improve. Big hugs. X

Yes definitely Camilla xx

Sorry to hear you are in hospital Kirsty hope you recover soon x

I am now having to have a Hickman line fitted due to my phlebitis in my arm . I am a bit nervous about it but now to the doctors expertise . My chemo has been delayed for a week while this is done

Hope you are all ok x

Thanks ladies, good to hear Jo, fingers crossed mine will start to pick back up. My temp is hovering at 37.7 and nit budging so far so hopefully that comes down a touch tomorrow too

Hope everyone else is keeping well and we have no other hospital admissions between us for now x

Thanks jay68, mine is the same that does itch or anything but very unsightly. Basically its really bad acne spots. I dont want chemo stopped early because of it tho, I want the full planned cycles so ill try and put up with it. My oncologist said earlier it wouldnt make any diff to giving me the 2 remaining cycles and has prescribed some cream and a gel for it so hopefully clears up… fingers crossed xx

Oh no Kirsty!! I’m sorry to hear that you ended up in hospital :frowning: … that’s rubbish. Hope you get out of there pronto!!!
I saw you mention acne — this happened to me on my very first round of treatment. Like you it didn’t itch but it looks really really unsightly. If you have a Lush near you I recommend the Aqua Marina cleanser. The lady in the shop recommended it to my husband for me and I can honestly say it calmed everything down over night. I put a couple of before/after pictures on Facebook a few weeks back! Round 2 and 3 were nowhere near as bad acne wise though. I also used Dermol cream to moisturise as that it antibacterial.
Hope you feel better soon! X

Hey Sam, yes I bought the aqua marina cleanser when you recommended before as I have had the acne spots on each round too but they cleared up themselves with the cleanser etc but whats this stuff looks like this time on the new drugs is unreal lol its like it exploded all over my face and chest and kept on spreading, I look quite alarming ? so ended up calling the line. They have said it can be common in some people becuase of the biological stuff in the herceptin and perjeta. Did you put the pics on thhme YBCN oage? I didnt see them but ill nred ti have a look… see how bad mine is compared to yours xxx

Yep! They are on one of the threads somewhere. Mine looked awful - much worse than anything I have had before but I wonder now if it was the shock of the drugs to the system as Iv not had it like that again. It worries me at the time thinking it would be like that for the whole year we are on Herceptin! I didn’t want to leave the house!! Fingers crossed it clears up for you though and it’s just a one off this time. How have the side effects been otherwise? Xx

Ah I must have missed it, a few people have posted about the spots issue as well since we joined. Glad it wasnt like that again! On each cycle of fec mine were less and less each time too. Thats what I am worried about if it happens the whole year of herceptin, but hopefully the first time on the new drugs just made it a lot worse. My face is finally starting to dry out today and im still waiting on the gel they have prescribed. Temp coming back down so fingers crossed they let me out today. Apart from the spots and slightly run down feeling from this viral infection Ive not had other side effects, so hoping this wee trip to hospital is a one off.
Have you had your midway MRI this week that you asked for? How did it go? xx

MRI was fine… just waiting on my apt with the dr to find out actual numbers of ‘shrinkage’!
It dawned on me today that I’m back in next Tuesday for round 4 and I already feel sick at the thought of it!! ??
Glad the side effects have been good to you- such a shame about the viral infection though. Have you been given your own room? Hoping they let you out soon!!! Xx

Cathsin glad you’re home and on the mend.

Camilla really hope you have a fantastic relaxing week with baby and fingers crossed puppies arrive too. Hickman line placement will save vein hunt and hopefully help your arm recovery.

Kirsty hope you’re numbers are on the up and you get home safely for the weekend.

Herceptin and spots. - I’ve had a few acne spots in 1st week after Herceptin but nothing as dramatic as Kirsty seems to be dealing with. I had awful acne as a teen and am 55 now and wonder if it affects each of us differently depending on where we are hormone wise pre/ post menopause. No scientific background just thinking.

Have a good weekend everyone or as good as we can make it.

F

Glad it was ok and fingers crossed for good results when have your app with Dr, let us know how that goes!

In a 2 person room just now, temp is back in normal region so thats good and I still feel fine so hoping when they test bloods today they will let me home oral antibiotics to finish off with. Fingers crossed anyway

Just think tho that after Tuesday you will only have 2 left!! xx
