December 2023 chemo starters

Hi everyone,
I’m new to the group and started chemo this month. I had my 2nd EC dose on 22nd Dec. I got through Christmas on adrenaline as the family were all staying at mine and i wanted my nephews and family to have a ‘normal’ christmas, but now everyone has left and I’m knackered and very emotional. Glad I got through the xmas period and now just want to have a few calm and quiet days.
Just wanted to say hi and join the Dec chat xx

@mrsbee2 @cookie_monster1 sorry to hear about the sickness and other ailments….doesn’t sound fun but I as we’re on the same road I’ll probably be there in 5 days!

My first treatment went fine yesterday. The whole process was actually quite pleasant and I enjoyed sitting and reading for 5 hours!
Unfortunately sone of the drugs leaked into my skin from the cannula so I had to deal with the symptoms from that last night and then an unexpected trip back to the hospital today. They’ve decided to put a line in before my next treatment - not a picc line, the other one!

Felt fine this morning but started to feel a bit odd from this afternoon. Just a bit dizzy and drunk! And slurring my words slightly. Not bad though at all. Did my first injection tonight which was absolutely fine. Not painful at all.

So just making the most of every little surge of energy I have right now to clear up all the crap from Xmas!!!

I popped into the Mcmillian centre at the hospital today for the first time. What a wonderful place! I even had a head and neck massage with one of the therapists as he had a free 30 mins! I’ll definitely be back to get all the treatments I can!

Hi clay83. My 2nd EC is tomorrow, as long as my neuts have improved today from last weeks 0.79.
Most of my hair fell out on Christmas Eve. I’ve got about 5% or less left. Good news is I have lovely smooth armpits!
I feel more prepared this time round for the ‘down time’ in a few days.

I like calling it “the down time” deffo more of a positive spin than my current “this is f**king crap I can’t deal with it” time.

That’s what shook me to the core, I’ve always been so resilient and strong but I felt a weak, sick mess. Yesterday was so much better so days 3-5 were my downtime!!!

Good luck with bloods for tomorrow, we just all need to get this part of the journey over I feel, it’s a long process but effectively battle 2, done.

(She says when she still has 5 more rounds to go!).

I’m glad your session @Charlie81 wasnt so bad, I think now we all know what to expect, we can and will push on through.

My dr gave me a sleeping tablet but I’m still wide awake……what’s that all about LOL!

Hope the 2nd EC goes okay.
I’m cold capping so at the moment still have my hair but its starting to shed so no idea if it will stay put. I thought there was no harm in trying the cap but ive bought a wig and some nice soft hats just in case.
Take it easy today x

Is it the port line you are getting? Thats what I’ve got and it’s working out well for me. Once it’s in then I’ve found you don’t really notice it too much and doesnt get in the way. Hopefully you’ll find it the same if this is what you are getting x

Hospital phoned me 9am. I thought they were cancelling. They wanted me to come in 11am instead of 2pm. Neuts are above what they were before I started all this. Just finished now. Strangely, the taste and smell hasn’t started yet.

Days 3 to 5 same for me. Couldn’t go further than the sofa. I don’t know if it’s all the water I’ve been drinking or the quarter melon I chomped on while having treatment this morning, but I don’t gave the taste or smell at the moment. Just starting to feel meh and really tired.
Neuts count was higher than before I started all this. Platelets has also gone up a bit close to top of normal range, where it was in the middle originally. This stuff really messes you up!

Hey Clay, I’m cold capping as well, I weirdly didn’t mind it but then I’m not sure if it was fitted correctly now having seen the videos.

What sort of wig did you get?!

@mrsbee2 glad you’re feeling more yourself today.

I’m still feeling a bit sorry for myself. Day 9 post chemo now and I’m still nauseous which is getting me down a bit. Was not a good night last night - at 2am I was throwing up whilst my hubby was in the street rescuing our recycling bin and its contents which were all blowing down the road!
I think I may ring my team again tomorrow if still feeling the same.

@Charlie81 glad your treatment went ok. You will be better with a port.

Hope everyone has a reasonable night.

Hi, Isitreallyme. I saw that you had your 2nd EC today and wondered how it went? I too was due to have my 2nd EC but it had to be abandoned part way through because I developed visual disturbance, nausea and jaw pain after approx 10 mins of the IV push. What should have been a 90 min appointment turned into a 6 hr wait while the (lovely!) staff tried to figure out what was wrong with me. I was so hoping to have it done and out of the way, but it wasn’t to be😕 I wonder if anyone else has had similar side effects?

Oh my! You poor thing! Mine went without a hitch. I didn’t have the instant smell or taste like the 1st time, but it is beginning now. I wonder if drinking the volumes of water before and during helped.
I get a spaced out feeling when it’s going in and for a few hours after. Slightly nauseous, but as long as I take the meds and eat small meals I can manage it. I had a sore mouth and ulcers after the 1st dose so they’ve given me mouth drops now.
I hope you’re feeling better now and they csn work out what happened so your next treatment goes ok x

Thanks, Shi. It’s just the frustration that hits when you have an end point in sight only to have it pushed back on multiple occasions. I think I’ll go out to the back garden and indulge in some primal screaming… it’ll entertain the neighbours anyway😄 Thanks for your input.

I’m on day 8 now of my 2nd EC dose. Last night i couldn’t sleep with bone pain but after a couple of paracetamol the pain went thankfully. This is now the 2nd time I’ve had this pain around the same time so i think its the accumulation of the filgrastim injections. It always happens at the last injection.
Has anyone else been getting pain from their injections?

I’m sorry you had such a rough time. Apart from a woozy feeling in my first session I haven’t had any symptoms like this during treatment. They told me it was probably the anti-sickness drugs that made me feel strange.
My main things after are gastric. I’m either blocked or very unblocked  I’ll take unblocked every day of the week though!! X
