Deciding on Further Treatment

Thanks JoanneN it’s really helpful reading about everyone’s experience with radiotherapy. So far it doesn’t sound as bad as I imagine, but I am still scared at the prospect of having it done. I am waiting for an appointment to speak to the oncologist and give my decision as to whether I will be going ahead or not!

I’ll speak to the breast care nurses on Monday and will post anything helpful they may come up with. I’m not very optimistic as to their actual help though based on my one request for advice earlier in my reatment

I’m surprised your radiotherapy centre and team haven’t been in touch to talk it through. I had 2 phone calls before starting and at the scan where they took my measurements I was able to ask further questions . I think I had a phone number to ring if needed and I also watched a video on YouTube and one which the Hospital sent to me . I didn’t discuss it with my BCN at all. You could always try the phone helpline here if you don’t have much confidence in your own BCN .

Just to update this thread, at just over eight weeks post surgery, I am just starting to feel a tad better despite being told last week that I have a lot of scar tissue around the surgery site and a seroma.
I have a telephone appointment with the oncologist tomorrow and will be letting them know that I have decided to not go ahead with radiotherapy.
I have an appointment with the breast consultant next week and will discuss hormone therapy, but may say no to that too.
I have done quite a bit of research, and feel that at my age (66) quality of life is the most important thing right now, however who knows if I am making the right decision or not!
Thank you to everyone for your comments and support
Best wishes
