Dent after node clearance

Hi all, i had my 2nd op yesterday which was for completion full node clearance. Having looked at the wound it is massive, i was expecting the previous wound to be reopened & to be a bit bigger which is ok. What i wasn’t expecting was the massive dent i now have under my arm going into the side of my chest. Is this normal to have such a big dent, it looks like someone has used a shovel to dig a hole then forgot to fill it in again! It looks really disfigured. Is this normal? love heather x

Hi I thought I had made my last post on here lol.But just thought I have to reply to your post  I to have a massive dent in my arm pit it looks horrible and just like you say a hole that someone forgot to fill again. and I cant bear to touch it.I didn’t realise it would look as it does and no one told me it would look this way.I was only talking to my OH the other day about it and said that I wonder if all clearances look like this.Just want to let you know your not alone and I really know how you feel.

Best wishes Melxx

forgot to say I’m 3+ years since surgery so you would think I should of got used to it by now but I still can’t stand it.

You’d think today they would have a better way of doing this concidering what they do with key hole surgery & such I too would be horrified if ever I needed this done the dent in the side of my boob was bad enough

oh dear, so it doesn’t sound promising then Mel, i hate it already & wasn’t warned about it,specially if as u say it’s not going to get any better. I’m not vain but it really is a humungous dent, another lovely effect of BC!
Yes u would think so wouldn’t u Mekala, with all the new technology there is. Maybe they can fill it out with some of my stomach fat, i certanly have enough, lol.

I had a mastectomy with node clearance 6 weeks ago. I was going to have reconstruction, but due to circumstances it didn’t happen. 4 days after the op I broke down because of the great crater under my arm and the big lump left (hoping for the reconstruction). I felt and still do, totally disfigured. I have had to go for a bra with a huge side bit, just to accommodate the huge lump.

Obviously this seems to be the norm! Sorry.

I only had one sential node taken out, the scar under my arm is 2 inch and yes- a huge dent. I was hoping there was swelling there and it would improve. Its odd because my WLE is realy neat, much bigger scar, but no dent at all.

fortunatly at my age, bingo wings prevent me bearing my arms anyway, and i only see it when i raise them. i dont spend that long in front of hte mirror with my arms in the air any more.

Bit it would be different if i was young enough to want to wear strappy tops and sleeveless dresses.

Oh OAL, I love your posts … Thank you for being so informative yet so amusing at the same time. You really make a terrible situation more bearable!! :))

Ax

perhaps i should change my avatar to a picture of me dancing around with my arms in the air and a feather duster in my teeth!!

OAL I dare you, I double dare you!

Dx

best i can do

That avatar is brilliant, YAF!

Sorry I can’t add anything to the discussion, I feel kind of embarrassed that my scar is almost invisible and I have no dent at all by my SNB scar.

Could you speak to your surgeon about the possibility of some further procedure to reduce the dent a bit?

now i’m really confused!! after saying i had a massive dent (which it was) it’s now 6 days post op & the dent has almost righted itself. Now i don’t know if that is what’s meant to happen or if it’s swelling now instead. It doesn’t feel swollen just feels fairly ok again. It doesn’t look anywhere near as disfiguring as it was so i’ll be happy if it stays that way. Very confusing though x
