Desperate to sleep, help please ladies!

Hi Ladies,

Quite right about the Evening Primrose oil, not the thing to take if your BC was hormone related.

I am not on Tamoxifen but a friend was and she had awful sweats. She discussed this with her Onc and was prescribed something to counteract the sweats and was much better. I have asked her what it was but it is 3 years ago and she cannot remember the name.

I did have problems sleeping when on chemo. I took Piriton, not every night, pehaps one in three. Just one tablet at bedtime and it gave me a good sleep. My BCN said that was fine. I also found that listening to a relaxation tape often sent me off to sleep.

Has anyone tried keeping a damp facecloth in a coolbag with a couple of icepacks. When you are having hot sweats put it on your forehead and it will cool you down.

Hope you all find a way around your problems.

E

Thanks finty I was taking 1 tablet as the box says 2 tablets. I will give 1/2 - 1/3 a try. Also liked the idea of a wet face cloth in a cool pack. Will also try my relaxation tape too. Heres hoping we all get a good nights kip soon. Jackie

Hi ladies, thank you to you all for your replies, sorry i haven’t been online for a few days, felt a bit of with SE’s, feeling better today, i am so grateful to you all, i phoned my mcmillan unit in the week and my chemo nurse said it was ok for my g.p. to give me somthing to help with sleep, i went to g.p. who gave me a short supply of temazepam 10mg to try, i have had them for 3 nights, wouldn’t say they worked well, but did help a bit, i think it’s co’s they are only 10mg. you can not take them for long as they can be addictive, don’t need that, but i was getting desperate as i was walking round like a zombie, ha ha.
Have got a fan in the bedroom now so that has helped with the sweats, i wake up cold now, ha ha! you just can’t win can you?
I am due to have a rewiew in 2 weeks with my oncologist, re. chemo, so will see what he says, about the sleep issue.
I hope all you ladies finally get a good night’s sleep, the fan definatley helps, also i will try the flannel in the freezer,Thanks again for all your input
Take care Sandrae x x x

Hi topsymo,
Sorry i mean’t to say, i think i tried Zoplicone or similar spelling before i was dx with bc, i tried 3.5mg at night then doc said to try 7mg at night, i didn’t have much luck on them, at least they did the trick for you, i gave up on them in the end, but thanks for the input, really grateful for everyones! i didn’t want to resort to sleeping tablets but u have woken about 20 plus times a night for over a year, it’s such a drain! i even had a sllep study before bc dx to check for sleep aponea, but that was fine.
So i will have to try the tablets for a couple of weeks , hopefully it may just be enough to restart my old sllep pattern
Thank you again
