Dexamethasone Steroid - Aching Legs and Feet

I’m due Taxotere 2 tomorrow (already had FEC x 3) and I had a really bad reaction to the injections in the stomach (Filsigram) which saw me in agony, crawling up stairs, crying in pain, prescribed Morphine.

HOWEVER, no problems since week 3. Started taking the 4 Dexamethasone Steroids twice a day today and have suddenly started up with aching in legs and feet along with some lower numbness feelings.

I never had probs with Dexamethasone when on FEC, could I have some sort of accummulative effect?

Hi All I can say is I had bad aches when on tax lower back leg pain my hubbie had to take me to the loo but also with the inj it’s hard to know way causing pain I’m on the same steroids but I don’t get any pains so not sure If it’s them I’m more Likey to think it’s the tax pain is not nice hope u find some comfort Laura

I’m not having the Filgisgram injections tomorrow as too severe reaction to them they are going to do this one without as my bloods have always been really good and have dealt with anything in past.

Just surprised to be feeling some discomfort tonight, will mention it to them tomorrow.

Yea I had probs with them mention it but I’m sure there is a thread on here about pain in joints with tax but them everyone dif so u might have a reaction try hot water bottle if to bad or warm bath hope it settle

I had reaction as well, warm bath used to help x

but I haven’t had taxotere since 21st June, I’m due my next lot tomorrow, can’t imagine it’s the tax this far in…

Oh well, I’ll see what they say, too hot for baths or hot water bottles

Maybe it’s the tabs then have a look at the se paper in box I had a anti sickness once which sd cause sickness so anything poss gd luck for tomorrow

Yeah maybe, god knows  I hate the aching thing cos I find it hard to sleep and that leads to severe grumpiness, along with the steroid induced waking up at god knows what times of the night.

Thanks for messages xxx

hi el-katrano,

I used to take my first 4 on waking earlier the better, then the second 4 before 2.00pm I found this allowed me to get some sleep, I never experienced aching legs and feet from the dex, but having finished my 6 tax I am struggling to get out of bed in the mornings and hoblling around for a while very first thing.

I hope all goes well with your 2nd tax, and may all the ses be little ones,

Love Liz xxx

Tax 3 today after 3 fec. I too have been crawling, and no newt jabs. I’m having oral Dex this time, and have found the stomach pain is down to the tabs and have burnt my stomach lining.
The Dex is also a weeks worth at 8 a day, and last night I got an hours kip. Ask at pre chemo, they can help.

Liz, I thought I was the only one struggling to get out of bed, I’m like a 90 year old holding onto the chest of drawers. My oncologist is quite dismissive about it xx

Eltiks - Ohhhh god that’s not good! Perhaps it was a combo of Tax, FSGM and Dexa. I’ll definitely be asking at the chemo unit today.
Will post what they say in case it helps anyone else who comes across this and has same problems.

I didn’t sleep last night either, well, perhaps and hour or so myself. Dexa does this to me every time, but not helped by leg pain either, didn’t dare take any meds as not sure if I can when I have Taxotere chemo today.

Liz - I know you had problems with the FSGM injections and you were crawling round on the floor from it like me. So did you stop those injections?

I hope the SEs will be easy on me this time! Horrendous time last one. No Oral thrush and No agonising leg/feet pains. Got 2 big toe nails creeping black colour and tender, hope they dont come off! Look nasty and bruised.

hi el-katrano,

I continued with the jabs each time, they were put up and down but still ended up having one a day for 5 days, and still became neutropenic anyway,

I think the pains in your arms and legs that a lot of people have experienced are ses from the tax, the pain from the jabs were mainly in my back, and were shooting pains, also like a wave like an electric shock wave, very perculiar,

I am suffering with rad burns now!!! it feels like it is never ending,

still feel very tired and hobbling around like an old lady, taking mild painkillers (paracetamol), and steroid cream for the burns,

I have had to accept for the time being at least, I need to take things really slowly, I simply cannot physically do what I did before all this treatment, I am finding it difficult because I would just do things without thinking twice before, now I carnt, hard to get my head round that, lol.

all the best Liz xx

I saw oncy at pre chemo on Friday. She took a look at my legs and I had a scan for DVT that day which showed nothing.
My one leg honestly looks like a thigh, as last night my knees started too. They flare up a little each year, but this year i’m not working, walking, swimming etc.
Waiting for the tax truck to hit, it’s in my legs and nails right now, in fact, going to go and cut the nails if i’m going to be typing my woes on line this cycle.
:o)

Well, I had a chat with the oncologist and she said that it could be Dexamethasone and it could be the Taxotere combo. Still agreed to keep me off the Filsgram injections.
Said to use up the morphone I have left if I feel like I need it - told her that it’s the lack of being able to get comfortable at night that is the issue this time, it’s not as bad as it was but niggling.

Can always be prescribed if needs be and she says if she should have prescribed me more then I can call her up and shout at her

Elttiks - Sounds nasty - we’re all sick of this aren’t we :frowning: It’s a pain in the behind!
I’m finding it hard to type with nails - been painting mine blue.
I don’t normally have long nails, too much of a tomboy but now I’m feeling really unfeminine, more weight on, no hair etc, I’ve stopped biting them (Not a good idea bacteria wise) and they look lovely, but I can’t do things as quickly as I did, like clean up or type :-X
